Hello movie lovers. Today I goin to tell you about a drama and science fiction film that was very strongly criticized at the time, but today is still remembered as one of the most influential films in the genre, being now a cult film. Also mention to them that it is one of the first films I remember watching quite a bit as a child, much to my misfortune. Written and directed by Eric Bress (director of Final Destination 2), this film stars the famous actor Ashton Kutcher, along with the participation of Amy Smart, Eric Stoltz, William Lee Scott, Elden Herson, among others. This is a movie that I do not recommend to everyone, as it is a raw story, with a rating for young/older and adults, it has explicit scenes and deals with very strong themes such as suicide, violence and drug abuse. However, on this occasion I will give you my opinion, as a fan of the science fiction, drama and suspense genre, about this movie.

El día de hoy les hablaré de una película de drama y ciencia ficción que fue muy fuertemente criticada en su momento, pero que en la actualidad se sigue recordando como una de las cintas que más han influido en el género, siendo ahora una película de culto. También mencionarles que es una de las primeras películas que recuerdo haber visto bastante desde pequeño, para mi infortunio. Escrita y dirigida por Eric Bress (director de Destino Final 2), esta cinta está protagonizada por el famoso actor Ashton Kutcher, junto con la participación de Amy Smart, Eric Stoltz, William Lee Scott, Elden Herson, entre otros. Esta es una película que no se la recomiendo a cualquiera, al ser una historia cruda, con una calificación para jóvenes/mayores y adultos, posee escenas explícitas y trata temas muy fuertes como el suicidio, la violencia y el abuso de drogas. Sin embargo, en esta ocasión les daré mi opinión, como fanático del género de la ciencia ficción, el drama y el suspenso, acerca de esta película.

Plot

The film introduces us to a group of friends made up of Evan Treborn, Lenny Kagan, Kayleigh and Tommy Miller. These four kids lived through many traumatic moments since their childhood and adolescence, causing Evan to develop some "Mental Lagoons", which were moments when he didn't remember what was happening or where he was. These traumatic moments took the form of a day where Evan would appear in the kitchen with a knife in his hand, another where he would pierce his palms, or when he was visiting his friend Kayleigh's house and they would appear together and unclothed in front of a professional camera with her father filming. These and other traumatic moments were recorded in a journal that Evan's doctor recommended he keep to write down his daily life to deal with his gaps, which he managed to do some time later until he got to college.

With several years without gaps, our young Evan is now a medical student with a promising future, friends and a quiet college life. One day, in his room, along with his roommate and his partner, he begins to read the diaries he has since he was a child and as he begins to read them he remembers those moments to perfection, as if he were going back in time, which he manages to do. With this, Evan discovers that those moments of gaps that he has had as a child and teenager were because of the same time travel, since he did not remember anything of what he did in those precise moments since his adult version possessed his body. With this present, Evan decides to try and travel in certain moments of the past in which he lived those traumatic moments and thus change them, but the consequences of this would be catastrophic in the future, thus developing the famous "butterfly effect".

La película nos presenta a un grupo de amigos conformados por Evan Treborn, Lenny Kagan, Kayleigh y Tommy Miller. Estos cuatro chicos vivieron muchos momentos traumáticos desde su infancia y adolescencia, ocasionando que Evan desarrollara algunas “Lagunas Mentales”, los cuales eran momentos en los que no recordaba qué sucedía o dónde estaba. Estos momentos traumáticos se conformaban como un día en el que Evan aparecía en la cocina con un cuchillo en la mano, otro donde este se perforaba las palmas de las manos, o cuando estaba de visita en casa de su amiga Kayleigh y aparecían juntos y sin ropa frente de una cámara profesional con el padre de ella grabando. Estos y otros momentos traumáticos quedaron registrados en un diario que el médico de Evan le recomendó que llevara para escribir su vida diaria y así afrontar sus lagunas, cosa que logró tiempo después hasta llegar a la universidad.

Con varios años sin lagunas, nuestro joven Evan es ahora un estudiante de medicina con un prometedor futuro, amigos y una vida de universitario tranquila. Un día, en su habitación, junto con su compañero y su pareja, este empieza a leer los diarios que tiene desde pequeño y al empezar a leerlos recuerda a la perfección esos momentos, como si regresara en el tiempo, cosa que logra hacer. Con esto, Evan descubre que esos momentos de lagunas que ha tenido de niño y adolescente eran por culpa de los mismos viajes en el tiempo, ya que no recordaba nada de lo que hacía en esos precisos momentos ya que su versión adulta poseía su cuerpo. Con esto presente, Evan decide probar y viajar en ciertos momentos del pasado en el que vivió esos momentos traumáticos y así cambiarlos, pero las consecuencias de esto serían catastróficas en el futuro, desarrollando así el famoso “efecto mariposa”.

I repeat, I had the misfortune in my life to have seen this and many other movies of the "Thriller" genre as a child, things that I do not recommend anyone to do with their children or any underage children. This was a very different time than the glass age we are in right now. And despite the story, the huge amount of raw and explicit scenes that this movie has, with that dark and dramatic tone for a child of 8 or 10 years old, even with all this I still remember this movie today with some nostalgia. And is that if we leave aside all these negative details, in addition to the poor way of explaining the theme of time travel and time loops throughout this tape, the story is one of those few positive points it has to offer. By dealing with such strong themes that in those times were taboo, today we recognize the suffering and the clear consequences of all this that this film teaches us, with an ending that makes clear a lesson that can completely break your heart and make you think a lot.

Repito, tuve el infortunio de mi vida de haber visto esta y muchas otras películas del género del “Thriller” de pequeño, cosas que no recomiendo a nadie hacer con sus hijos ni con ningún menor de edad. Esta fue una época muy diferente a la época de cristal en la que estamos ahora mismo. Y a pesar de la historia, la enorme cantidad de escenas crudas y explícitas que tiene esta película, con ese tono oscuro y dramático para un niño de 8 o 10 años, aún con todo esto sigo recordando esta película hoy en día con algo de nostalgia. Y es que si dejamos de lado todos estos detalles negativos, además de la forma tan pobre de explicarnos el tema de los viajes en el tiempo y los bucles temporales durante toda esta cinta, la historia es uno de esos pocos puntos positivos que tiene que ofrecer. Al tratar temas tan fuertes que en aquellos tiempos eran tabúes, al día de hoy reconocemos el sufrimiento y las claras consecuencias de todo esto que nos enseña esta cinta, con un final que deja bien claro una lección que te puede destrozar por completo el corazón y hacerte pensar un montón.

On this occasion I will not focus much on talking about technical issues of this film, since being directed by someone who only has experience in films like "Final Destination 2" (something that would make you expect more at the production level, but in the end it was not so unfortunately) and with very little production and a very poor level of visual effects and absence of CGI, it is not worth having to talk about this and say that I will add points for something that in the end it does not have. For its part, I'll talk more in terms of the story and characters, which I think are the source of everything this film currently has to offer. The theme of time travel and the theory of the "butterfly effect" is a detail that interests me a lot as a fan of the science fiction genre, since it unites a theory with a fictional genre and mixes it with a story full of drama and very strong themes, resulting in one of the most influential works of science fiction cinema.

Let's talk now about the story told in this film, which revolves around our protagonist Evan Treborn and his friends. What we know about these boys is that they did not have the best childhood of their lives due to the variety of traumatic moments that we see at the beginning of the film, something that would traumatize any young person for life. However, they grow up and become adults, but with different lives. Starting with his childhood friend Kayleigh Miller, Evan realizes that his childhood and life with his father and older brother Tommy was not the best and he wishes he could forget those moments. Evan, who has always been in love with her since they were teenagers, decides to travel to the past and change certain moments that traumatized her so that she can have a much happier future. But this will completely change his present, causing unexpected side effects that will affect his other childhood friends, such as Lenny, Tommy and himself.

En esta ocasión no me enfocaré mucho en hablar de temas técnicos de esta película, ya que al ser dirigida por alguien que solo tiene experiencia en películas como “Destino Final 2” (cosa que te haría esperar más a nivel de producción, pero al final no fue así lamentablemente) y con muy poca producción y un muy pobre nivel de efectos visuales y ausencia de CGI, no vale la pena tener que hablar de esto y decir que le sumaré puntos por algo que al final no tiene. Por su parte, hablaré más en cuanto a la historia y los personajes, los cuales pienso que son la fuente de todo lo que esta película tiene para ofrecer actualmente. El tema de los viajes en el tiempo y la teoría del “efecto mariposa” es un detalle que me interesa bastante como fanático del género de la ciencia ficción, ya que unen una teoría con un género ficticio y lo mezcla con una historia repleta de drama y temas muy fuertes, resultando de esto una de las obras más influyentes del cine de ciencia ficción.

Hablemos ahora sí de la historia que nos cuenta esta película la cual gira en torno a nuestro protagonista Evan Treborn y sus amigos. De lo que sabemos de estos chicos es que no tuvieron como que la mejor infancia de sus vidas debido a la variedad de momentos traumáticos que vemos al principio de la película, cosa que traumatizaría de por vida a cualquier joven. Sin embargo, estos crecen y se vuelven adultos, pero con vidas distintas. Empezando por su amiga de la infancia, Kayleigh Miller, Evan se da cuenta de que su infancia y vivencia con su padre y su hermano mayor Tommy no fue la mejor y que desea poder olvidar esos momentos. Evan que siempre ha estado enamorado de ella desde que eran adolescentes decide viajar al pasado y cambiar ciertos momentos que la traumatizaron para que así ella tenga un futuro mucho más feliz. Pero esto hará que su presente cambie por completo, ocasionando efectos colaterales inesperados que afectarían a sus otros amigos de la infancia, como Lenny, Tommy o él mismo.

The way they show us how a single act, a single change in the past causes a sequence of unexpected events that would completely change the lives of all their friends and acquaintances is shocking at best. It is normal to think about the past and how we wish we could have changed some moment of it, thinking that this would make our present or future better, but what we do not take into account when we think about it is what we have right now and what would happen if this were to occur. We should also think about how this could change the lives of our friends and loved ones. This story is as raw and realistic a test as you can find in this vast world of cinema. A story of love, pain, hate, traumatic and unforgettable moments. In this film we get to know different futures, different presents, different versions of a single character and different unexpected endings. The way the characters change, grow, live and die makes us think and reflect a lot. And if that wasn't enough, the ending is one of those endings that I will never forget because of how hard it is. In short, a film that doesn't have much to offer on a technical level, but narratively it can leave you thinking a lot.

Personally, I give it a rating of 7.5/10 as far as the drama, science fiction and suspense genre is concerned.

La forma en la que nos muestran cómo un solo acto, un solo cambio del pasado ocasiona una secuencia de sucesos inesperados que cambiarían por completo la vida de todos sus amigos y conocidos es algo impactante, como mucho. Es normal pensar en el pasado y en cómo desearíamos haber cambiado algún momento de él, pensando que así nuestro presente o futuro sería mejor, pero lo que no tenemos en cuenta al pensar en eso es lo que tenemos ahora mismo y lo que sucedería si esto ocurriera. También debemos de pensar en cómo esto podría llegar a cambiarles la vida a nuestros amigos y seres queridos. Esta historia es una prueba de lo más cruda y realista que se puede encontrar en este extenso mundo del cine. Una historia de amor, dolor, odio, momentos traumáticos e inolvidables. En esta película podemos conocer diferentes futuros, distintos presentes, distintas versiones de un solo personaje y distintos finales inesperados. La forma en la que los personajes cambian, crecen, viven y mueren nos hace pensar y reflexionar bastante. Y por si fuera poco, el final, es uno de esos finales que jamás voy a olvidar por lo duro que es. En fin, una película que no tiene mucho que ofrecer a nivel técnico, pero que narrativamente puede dejarte pensando bastante.

Personalmente, le doy una calificación de 7.5/10 en lo que respecta al género del drama, la ciencia ficción y el suspenso.
