This is one of the best movies I have watched in a very, very long time. It is a blend of horror, fantasy, and comedy.
Story Plot: Getting down to the intriguing and gripping part, this story revolves around a group of explorers spearheaded by a confident man named Edgin, (Chris Pine) alongside his friend who he regarded as his sister, Holga (Mitchelle Rodriguez), who all embarked on a journey to retrieve a lost relic. In their journey, a sorcerer named Simon (Justice Smith) and a mutating druid—Doric (Sophia Lillis), joined forces with them to face dangers and threats of a sinister red wizard, Sofina(Daisy Head).
Plot overview: Edgin (few years ago in the movie) became a member of the Harpers faction—a network of spies who swore an oath to fight tyranny, defend the oppressed and ask nothing in return. Edgin's wife supported his decision, even though she knew the risks involved. One day while Edgin was on duty as a Harper, 'Red Wizards of Thay' raided his house and killed his wife, luckily his daughter—kira was safe.
Edgin so bitter and heartbroken, renounced his oath and left the Harper. He started raising his daughter alone, and it was at this time he met Holga.
Holga was a divorcee who took pity upon Edgin and helped looked after his daughter as her own. She became a very loyal friend to Edgin and a very close companion to Kira. Edgin desperate to provide for his daughter resulted to thievery. He then organized a theft operation with Holga, a cowardly sorcerer-Simon and another guy named Forge (Hugh Grant). But their plan fell through after Forge betrayed and framed them up, following this…Edgin and Holga were captured and imprisoned by the Harper faction while Simon barely managed to escape.
After Edgin and Holga were released, they found out that they were betrayed by Forge (the movie’s antagonist). Forge had taken all the treasures from them, including the relic, and manipulated Kira into believing her father (Edgin) had abandoned her. Now, this was just the beginning of their problems. Edgin and Holga went in search of Simon to help retrieve Kira and this relic, which Forge was in possession of.
But Forge was almost unbeatable because he had a red wizard(Sofina) as his ally, and had forcefully become king of a kingdom—Neverwinter. The relationship between Forge and the red wizard(Sofina) was one of a mutual convenience that lacked trust. Forge used Sofina’s dark magic for his ambitions and to solidify his position as the king of Neverwinter while Sofina(unknowingly to Forge) used him as a pawn in her plans.
Edgin, Holga, and Simon had to employ the help of some persons—Doric and Xenk, to help in this battle of magic.
The explorers came across so many hurdles on the way. At some point, it became a mission impossible.
Find out what happens at the final battle! Will good win everytime or does evil sometimes triumph?
Rating: I’m at a loss for words when it comes to the excellent performance of the casts, the magnificent visuals, and humor. A showstopper moment was the final battle.
'Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves' is a must-watch for anyone who loves magic, action, and a bit of comedy, I will confidently give it an 8.5 out of 10.
