Everest (2015) was heart-pounding!

Hard to believe that this movie came out nearly a decade ago. The past decade has been so fast paced and hectic my goodness. Feels like yesterday I saw previews for this movie. The younger me would have probably made it a point to see this movie way sooner than just recently. Priorities change, life changes. Time passes faster and faster it seems. Unbelievable.

Anyway, Everest was entertaining and enjoyable. Of course the story is a bit depressing, the movie is still a thrilling watch. It's unlike any disaster movie I have seen. The scenario they are in is really unique and relatable. No zombies, mega explosions, or even bad guys actually.

The fact that this is based on a true story and the fact that you CAN climb Everest to this day in a similar guided fashion makes this movie all the more eerie. Climbing Everest seems like an awesome accomplishment but this movie definitely makes me think twice.

Climbing Everest does feel like it would be seriously satisfying and seriously beautiful. I know we have planes and other crafts that can take humans much higher, but still the idea of climbing all the way to the top of the earth we were born on, is a pretty awesome and deep idea/accomplishment. Feels very human for some reason. These unique aspects of it's sheer relatability made 'Everest' stand out a bit.

Also, what was eye opening was the fact that while it would be cool to climb to the top of the highest mountain on earth, was the fact that the environment up there felt so alien and unnatural. Didn't even seem like earth at all. Crazy. When some of the victims fell to their death in just a silent, cold, exhausted way, in a cold exhausted wasteland, it was surprisingly seriously gnarly.

When Rob said to his wife that their daughter should be named Sarah, that was the saddest and morbidly cute thing ever. Surprisingly abruptly powerful moment. He was struggling to cling to life in a cold barren environment and was just trying to make a living and in general he seemed like a good guy. For him to ask his wife to name his daughter out of the blue was just amazing.

'Everest' was simple, and didn't exactly have many massive plot twists. But the movie was suspenseful, fairly powerful, and entertaining. Climbing Everest may be a big accomplishment on paper, but it is easier said than done.

Overall, I'll give Everest an 8.48/10.
