Welcome to the first issue of Frey’s magazine, a weekly magazine, a place where I share what is popular among the youths of today. I myself -the youngest on the Cine team- thought it would be perfect to inform you all about what’s fresh, from trending films, bands to TikTok creators. I got you covered! Every week you’ll be asking yourself, ‘What’s new?’
We wanted to do an article about what the youth are watching and its not all high brow cinema, usually the teens of today watch the newest grossing films on streaming platforms such as Netflix, Amazon Prime, Youtube, and for American viewers, sites like Hulu and HBO. Personally I like going to the cinema mainly because I like the fact that it's traditional, even the thrill of sneaking in sweets! It’s all part of the fun of it in my opinion. Though, what I do find about the cinema is if there’s nothing you fancy, there’s nothing to watch at all. The streaming platforms also cost less money in the long run, it is better in this day and age with everything going up in price. I like doing things traditionally, so I like going to the cinema from time to time, depending on which ones are aired.
The movies of last year have been a rollercoaster. So many new movies have been released, coming from many genres. The fan favorites include the psychological thriller ‘Don’t Worry Darling’. This film received a lot of critical acclaim but nonetheless is so popular because of it’s main actor- Harry Styles. Another one of my favorites is the Korean version of Money Heist starring one of my favorite k-drama actors Park Hae-Soo. So many genres have been explored this year- horror, thriller, drama, genres that I am really interested in.
This weeks film interest in specific is the new Netflix show ‘Wednesday’ (a spin off to the cult classic the Addams Family) starring Jenna Ortega as the main lead, she is a very popular figure among the youths.
The film follows Wednesday Addams, a troubled teenager, going to a boarding school and having to fit in with those who are also peculiar. She tries to escape but has people after her and she learns to adapt to her surroundings by the aid of her friend ‘Thing’ Thing is a singular hand that walks around on its fingers. If you like kooky films, this one's for you! One of my closest friends for one is obsessed with it.
Streaming services are upgrading and expanding by the day. Netflix used to be the top streaming service but is being taken over by Amazon Prime. Different broadband companies such as Sky, BT, Vodafone offer packages where they offer however many months free and usually by the end of that period of time, the buyer is addicted and that then encourages them to pay for the full thing. It’s all a scheme really, isn’t it! They know what they are doing. Personally, I watch a lot of Netflix, YouTube (where I watch all the 90s and 00s episodes of EastEnders, my favorite guilty pleasure haha) Amazon Prime (sometimes) I find nowadays there’s not a lot of the things I like on Prime where I don’t have to rent or buy.
Popular youtubers include Swedish most subscribed youtuber on the platform, PewDiePie. He posts reaction videos, gaming videos which is the type of content popular this time in 2022. Another popular youtuber includes MrBeast, the youtuber with the most money and the question is HOW does he have so much money? I’m not sure if anyone actually DOES know but he does a load of charity events, and competitions among friends and whoever wins usually gets a lump sum like $10,000 even up to $1,000,000?!
I like to watch all sorts on YouTube! One of my favorites is the popular genre- ASMR. It involves calming sounds like tapping, it is supposed to help relax the mind. I like the lens tapping specifically (if any of you know ASMR). Personally, I suffer badly with insomnia so I usually find that helps to relax me and help me sleep. My favorite is the popular youtuber Edafoxx ASMR. I am very specific with what ASMR I like to watch and she has various videos doing my favorite trigger- lens tapping.
As we come to the grand close of 2022, the most popular celebrities this year have consisted of Tom Holland who plays Peter Parker in the recent Spiderman films, they were a HIT this year, very popular among people my age (personally I never got the hype) along with Holland’s girlfriend Zendaya, their relationship has been heavily publicized and seemingly dubbed a fairytale couple.
Kim Kardashian was trending again along with Kanye West regarding their divorce, and Kim wearing Marilyn Monroe’s dress and RIPPING it, the dress- such a preserved artefact, a proper piece of history only for it to be ruined in a matter of hours. If you couldn’t tell, this matter I am very vocal about!!
Britney Spears has also been trending, regarding the whole conservatorship situation and her Father controlling her for over the past decade, and her STRANGE behavior on Instagram. One minute she hates her sister and wants nothing to do with her, the next she’s congratulating her?? It’s all so confusing to be honest..
Another well-talked about celebrity is Kim Tae-hyung, member of BTS. after amassing a whopping 53.5M followers on Instagram, (in only a year!!) He has become the most followed person in such a short amount of time. So many celebrities were spoken about this year!

Wednesday was very good, now I'm looking forward to see La casa de papel Korea, I want to see what new experience it offers compared to the original tape.
Loved Wednesday
He's a great character, have you seen the complete season 1 ?
I loved Wednesday! I love any K-drama too!
My two favorite characters are Wednesday and Uncle Lucas, they are great, and Wednesday gives a good look of terror to the series.

The new money heist and Wednesday Addmas are two hot stuff right now.
Great choice!
Yes almost finished all of money heist, such a good show as is Wednesday, thank you!
suggestion - when you use an acronym for the first time, define it - ASMR is?
good first in a series. Keep it up.
ASMR stands for autonomous sensory meridian response- it is meant to give a goosebump effect and relax the audience. ASMR can be done in many forms such as tapping, eating, whispering etc. Hope this helps! :) In the future I will define, thank you for the tip!
yes, thanks

So much information in one content. That's great.
About Wednesday: many people think that the movie is overrated and others think it's underrated.
While I think it was a good watch.
