Besides Freediving, I have explored the world of Latin Dancing this epic year of 2021. From graduating on my Bachata Level 1 last June 2021, now to attending Bachata Level 3 and Kizomba Level 1 dance classes, I can say I'm more confident in sharing my dance videos here in Hive.

If you were wondering why I decided to learn latin dances... Well, I see Bachata and Kizomba as a therapy for my self esteem and confidence in terms of feminine power and sensuality. Yes, this is true and I'm now more open in talking about it. Also these type of dancing requires partner work which was a huge challenge for me since its hard for me to put my trust on male partners.

Reflecting on my dance journey, the two challenging lessons I have encountered were (1) Letting go and (2) Connection.

Letting Go - I am a control freak. As much as possible, things should always go according to my plans. I'm always up in my head meaning a lot of of things play in the back of my mind and latin dancing or any other dancing will really push you to let go and surrender to the music, to the beat, and to your feelings. So once on the dance floor, you should leave everything behind.

But although this is the ideal situation, I am still in the process of learning so I try to make sure I get all the steps or moves correctly. Again, my logical brain working. My dance teacher would always remind me to relax and to let go most of the time.

Connection - As I mentioned, I have a hard time putting my trust in male species. So the partner work during our dance practice have helped me overcome that. But I used to have a hard time connecting with my partners; as a result I end up doing a back lead (doing the moves ahead of your partner) which I should refrain from doing. In partner work, as my teacher always say "Males lead, Females follow." The irony of this in real life though. haha. But on a serious note, this is what is normal during Latin Dancing.

Over the course of four months and constant dancing, I have been feeling more comfortable with dancing with our male leads from our dance studio. I'm also grateful that I have finally come to a point where I trust them fully.

Above is our Day 5 for Bachata Level 3 where our dance teacher Mich taught us Lady styling.

Oh fantastic, another dancer!

So happy to see that someone else loves dancing just as much as me!

And I have don't nothing but dance since lockdowns started last year!

I feel so much better for it too- more mentally than physically, but I'm sure that I would fee so much worse physically if I hadn't been dancing all this time though...

Yeah! Cheers to us dancers! I definitely have done new things during this year!

I would fee so much worse physically if I hadn't been dancing all this time though...

I think so too! Just being in the house and sitting all day have drive me nuts! So its really a game changer for me to start learning this type of dancing too.

What type/kind of dance are you into?

Well I was always a dancer- not professionally, just socially and usually drunkenly from 1985 till 2010....(I was a perennial party girl...).but then stopped for 10yrs and then when I got back into it last year during lockdown (completely straight and sober too by the way..lol...) I started with Misty Tripoli and Body Groove on demand which had a variety of styles and music, then after my 1hour with her, I would start playing random music on spotify and would keep dancing for another hour or so regardless of how tired I was, then realised I really didn't need Misty anymore and just danced freestyle to whatever the genre of music is playing- so whether it be Latin, swing, Turkish, Balkan Gypsey, trance, deep house, funk- whatever, anything thats got a good beat.

So everyday I would get up and do an hour of Qi gong for the warm up and meditation, then danced, but now I find that I can actually meditate just aswell when I'm dancing...

And now I can't stop and when I walk- well I actually find it hard to walk straight- without dancing...🤣

Ah[[y to share my spotify list with you if you want...

usually drunkenly from 1985 till 2010....

Hahaha. Damn. I can relate to this! I guess, there will always be a time in our lives when we get to be freakin wild. Sometimes, when I look back, I cringe of all the embarassing stuffs that I did.

Thats really cool of you for dancing your heart out and not afraid to do so. As much as I want to dance all genre as well, my body wont coordinate with hiphop. 😂 But I do want to learn african modern tribal dance. I'm just drawn to it when watching some videos.

I also feel like I meditate when I freedive but not when I'm dancing. I overthink a lot especially when we do choreography because I don't want to be able to memorize the steps.

Yes please! share me your spotify! As I have no abundant choice of music on mine because I also just play random stuff!

Yes those embarrassing moments that we shall not mention- bearing in mind all of the witnesses were also doing what could definitely be considered as embarrassing too...lol...

As for the dancing, because these days I am going freestyle, it's my body that makes the move to the specific beat/style while my mind drifts and I think that's the difference between learning choreographed dance and just dancin!

I think that you're on right path by watching videos, then when you do hear the music, you will automatically know how to step...

The most important thing is to remember to relax into it and have fun!

Try this one on...

DAMN!!!!! I FUCKIN LOVE THE TITLE!!!!

Playing Deep-N-Dirty right now. Haha. As much as I want to dance right, its 9:07pm. but ill silently feel the beat while working here. This is dope. 505 songs too! Glad I have something to play till Christmas! 😂

Oh WOW, Love it! Love the fact that you love it!

So dance girl, dance! and enjoy that freedom of the freestyling and I hope you find that meditation factor in there too as I'm sure you will.

And 505 songs- well it is called dance my arse off (and still trying to lose that extra booty too..lol...🤣..)

what a beautiful choreography and how well you dance !!
When I started dancing bachata I also felt some rejection towards men, especially because bachata requires a lot of contact and I didn't like that at first and even less with anyone haha, but that keeps changing over time and I feel more comfortable dancing as a couple with whoever, giving myself to respect, of course.
Greetings from Venezuela beautiful ♥ ️💃🏽

thank you @ashleyjaramillo! this warms my heart. Yes, I too am more comfortable with dancing with other partners that I really trust.

Do you dance Kizomba? I am starting my Kizomba basic classes!

Oooy this is actually just 3 mins away from our house haha

Oh?! Do you dance too? 😍 Currently here at the dance studio! 😉
