The history of the restaurant
Daeng Naem Nuang in Nong Khai, nice and huge place!
A set of Naem Nuang with Vietnamese wrap snack
Wrap all the meatball, veggies, herbs, rice wrapper in one bite!
Dip it in that peanut sauce!
The bite is that huge!
We just arrived to Nong Khai, Thailand. Another Thai-Lao border city in Northeastern Thailand. We did a 6 hour drive straight from Chiang Khan where we enjoyed it a ton to here on the same day and can totally see and feel the big differences on the what these 2 cities have to offer. Chiang Khan was a pretty chill little town by a river and Nong Khai is more like a bigger cities with more bigger businesses and more people.
Naem Nuang
One thing they have in common is that, they both are in Isaan just across the river from Laos. The food seems to be a little different from each other. Vietnamese food though, all over both the cities and one of the reasons is that during the Indochina war, there are a good amount of Vietnamese immigrants immigrated to Thailand and now live across the country and a lot of them are here in Nong Khai.
One highlight of the Vietnamese food here or just among other food in general, and you totally CAN'T MISS when you're here in the city, you can't miss Daeng Naem Nuang. They claim to be the first ever original Vietnamese Naem Nuang in Thailand so there's not a chance we would miss that as well.
Now, what exactly is Nam Nuang? I remember I have had this with my family since I was a kid. My family loves it and I do too! It's Vietnamese style meatballs (Looks almost like weird sausage) that are wrapped in rice paper and served with fresh herbs and veggies to wrap the whole bite. Best to go with a delicious sweet and spicy peanut sauce. It's probably one of the most healthy kinds food I have known!
Daeng, the First ever original Vietnamese Naem Nuang
'Daeng', the name of the place! I believe that was the founder of this place, Dang Naem Nuang that's been founded since the 60's. It's started when all the Vietnamese immigrants immigrated here to Thailand. Back then they only sold in a basket walking around like a real street food (old -school) and once it gets more and more popular, bigger and bigger, they now expand the branches, the original places and even does delivery online. Their business is crazy huge!
Here at the original place, as well, I can insist enough how spacious and busy the place is. They have if not 100+ employees, then it's so damn close! The place is just so close to the Khong river that you can see the river view from there.
Made it to the origin of the First ever original Vietnamese Naem Nuang, it would have been a little odd if we didn't order Naem Nuang so we did! Only went with a small set for 2 of us but it was the right decision. The set is crazy enormous. We also got a plate of Vietnamese snack to try as well.
Naem Nuang
As mentioned, it's one of my favorite meal growing up. One of the reason is it's delicious and the other is that, it's dang delicious! Eating it here even more delicious than usual because all the ingredients are so fresh! I can't explain to you how fresh all the veggies are. The veggies are also the factor that makes Nam Nuang so interesting! Some places put raw bananas, some put star fruits. Seems like you can just be so creative and customized.
The sauce here is also real good. Not too much and too little of all the ingredients they use. It tastes just right. Sweet, salty, a little spicy and of course, peanutty! Nice complimentary with the wrap bite.
Vietnamese wrap
I mean, we already have the Naew Nuang wrap, what was I thinking ordered another dish of wrap! but hey, I think it's okie dokie. The wrap made of different ingredients. This one got some port skin (which I likey like) and other herbs. Most importantly, it's pre-wrapped so it's way easy to eat.
Along with a different type of dipping sauce as well. This one is more like sweet chilli sauce so it's sweeter and less dense.
Love both dishes we ordered really! Just really wish we order another dish differently so we could try many types of their dishes since we're at their first and original branch.
If you love something healthy and delicious (duh?!), Daeng Naem Nuang or just Naem Nuang in general would do!
