In Nigerian homes, one of the delicacies we can't do without eating is the beans, God has blessed us with a good and fertile land thats produces beans almost all year round.
Beans rich in fibre and protein contents is a healthy meal good for consumptions, although beans is highly gaseous and sometimes dificult for the body to digest, thats why its good not to consume too much. There are white beans, red beans and honey beans these are all different species of beans and what ever specie you are eating you are surely not missing out from the nutrients beans have got.
So today being Saturday, as part of my weekend routine, i decided to cook beans for the house, I must say this, one of the things i hate about cooking beans is that it does take time to cook, sometimes 2 hours depending on what you are using to cook.
So i decided to use charcoal with the burner instead of wasting much gas using cylinders.
Using charcoal is relatively cheap and a good idea since i will be cooking the beans for long, and As part of the home management, its important to consider the cost.
Apart from the fact that cooking beans is very time consuming, it is very easy to prepare without necessarily spending much on buying ingredients. no much spiced and no much seasoning.
After deciding the quantity of beans i want to cook, i carefully pick out the impurities from the beans, it is important to this because while processing the beans from the farm some unknown impurities might have been packed together like sand or stone, so its important to pick out these impurities, then carefully wash with water, and pour inside the cooking pots, and then cook.
After the beans had boiled for more than an hour, i added my seasoning and salt, while i also added blended chilli pepper to had some spice and also red oil to give the beans a pleasant reddish look.
After adding the necessary ingredients, this is what I have;
After this, i closed the pot. continue cooking while i allowed the ingredients steamed together for another 40 - 45 minutes.
Like i said earlier, beans is very gaseous and eating too much of it can cause heartburn or ulcer so its important to it with something, bread, cassava flakes, fried plantains are all good options, in my own case i served my cooked beans with a bread.
