Crafting an Enchanting "Love Potion No. 9" using Wild Foraged Ingredients

in Foodies Bee Hive9 months ago (edited)

The concept of a "love potion" is deeply rooted in folklore and mythology across various cultures, where it's believed that certain concoctions or spells can make someone fall in love or become infatuated with another person.

"Love Potion No. 9" is purely a creation of popular culture, particularly in the song "Love Potion No. 9"by The Clovers in 1959 and later covered by the British rock band, The Searchers, in 1965. The song tells the story of a man who seeks help from a gypsy with his romantic struggles, and she gives him a potion to drink, which then causes him to kiss everything in sight, including a policeman and a garbage can :).

For Valentine's Day fun, I decided to create my own "love potion" using wild and foraged ingredients.

Last summer, I harvested wild blackberries.

I picked rosehips.

and collected elderberries.

I then turned them into wine.

I'm not a heavy drinker, but I enjoy making these beverages. They all end up in cooking, as just a little shot of them makes me pleasantly tipsy. I like to indulge in them from time to time when relaxing.

Additionally, I picked elderflowers and made them into champagne.

soooo... here it is.

Introducing My Enchanting Love Potion No. 9 ;) ❤️

Ingredients:

A cupfull of handcrafted elderberry wine, infused with the thrill of anticipation.
A cupfull of velvety blackberry wine, dripping with the sweetness of desire.
Half a cup of zesty rosehip wine, adding a tantalizing tang to the concoction.
A delightful spritz of elderflower champagne, for effervescent enchantment.
A dash of fiery plum brandy, igniting passion and warmth within.

Instructions:
Combine elderberry, blackberry, and rosehip wines in a mixing bowl.

Add splashes of elderflower champagne for a bubbly twist.

Stir in a dash of plum brandy for a touch of warmth.

A slice of succulent strawberry heart for a hint of sweetness and scent.

Mix well and serve in glasses for a romantic toast.

We all enjoyed this drink.

It's a small touch that reminds us that love makes the world go around, especially when getting a little tipsy.

A simple pleasure that reminds us the importance of love.

It made the celebration of love more special.

Remember, true love cannot be concocted—it's nurtured through genuine connection and affection.

Keep loving.
Have a wonderful Valentines Day, Everyone!

Mariah ❤️

Thank you. 😊

I love every bit of this post! It is really impressive that you make your own wine, even more so when they are made with medicinals - rosehip, blackberry, elderberry - all of my favorites! If you havent already, a post about your wine making process would be so interesting. Thanks for sharing, I feel really inspired, especially by the rosehip wine, that one in particular sounds very love-enducing.

Thank you so much for your kind words! I'm pleased to hear that you enjoyed the post and that you're interested in learning more about the wine-making process, Especially with the use of medicinal ingredients like rosehip, blackberry, and elderberry. Making wine is really fascinating, I'd be happy to share more about the process sometime, I don't use any chemical ingredient. These berries are powerful as you know and they tasted so nice mixed together, superior than shop bought wine. Enchanting quality indeed.

Wow... I never knew that the existence of love portion transcend beyond Africa. I'd thought that we only have it in Nigerian cultures.
I love this your combination. It fits the season. A little being tipsy balances the equation.

Thank you for your lovely comment, and yes, I think potions can be from anywhere. But having a Nigerian friend here, I am aware that people there make real potions. Hehe. Well, thank you again ;)

Gracias. ☺️

Thank you, yes, the flavor is very nice indeed. We are very pleased with it and had to make another mix. I wish I could share them with you all. Thank you. ☺️

Great post! I know two people who make their own wines and/or liqueurs. The one who makes wines is also in the UK, up in the Midlands. She also makes Elderberry and Blackberry, and various other fruit wines too. Delicious! She has her equipment set up in her spare room. A wonderfully tasty hobby hehe. I'm in the South East myself. Whereabouts are you based?

Thank you. Yes, I think homemade wines are delightfully tasty and healthier. I can understand why people want to make their own. I can't wait for the wild berries to come out so I can make more, haha. I'm around the Cotswolds area. I haven't had the chance to explore Dreemport yet, but it is intriguing, especially the live curation show. It sounds exciting. I appreciate your offer to navigate me around. I will reach out when I do. Thank you again.
