Here is Why You Should Eat Healthy

If you have ever asked someone why you should eat healthily, you would have probably been told that it helps you lose weight. But that is not all that there is to eating healthily, there is so much more. In this article, you will discover five important reasons for eating healthy and how to inculcate healthy eating into our daily diet.

As highlighted earlier, eating healthy is not only about reducing weight, it is about feeling great physically, mentally, and emotionally. It is also important to note that eating a nutritious, well-balanced diet does not have to be difficult or limiting. This is because there are various interesting ways to eat healthily.

A balanced diet should contain nutrient-dense foods from all major food categories, such as fruits and vegetables, lean proteins, dairy products, grains and cereals, and healthy oils and fats. Also, keep in mind that eating healthily necessitates being aware of not just what you eat and drink, but also how you prepare it.

Here are some reasons you should eat healthily.
1. It helps your heart health: You improve your heart health by controlling your blood pressure and cholesterol levels. This can be achieved by eating a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, nuts, fish, grains, and low-fat dairy. These foods are known to help minimize your risk of heart diseases. They contain omega-3 fatty acids and mono-unsaturated fats, both of which are beneficial to your heart. This diet also makes it easy to avoid the majority of trans fats, which are linked to heart disease.

2. It improves your mood: When we eat a healthy diet, it benefits more than just our physical health. Research has shown that there is a link between nutrition and our mood. It was discovered in 2016 that high-glycaemic-load meals may cause greater sadness and tiredness symptoms. Many refined carbs, such as those found in soft drinks, cakes, white bread, and biscuits, have a high-glycaemic-load. However, a diet rich in vitamins and minerals has been linked to a decreased incidence of mental health illnesses such as anxiety, melancholy, and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).

3. It aids weight loss: People mostly consume a healthy diet because it helps to maintain or reduce weight. A healthy weight has many advantages on its own, but we won't be delving into that here. Eating foods high in fibre keeps your gut bacteria healthy and helps you lose weight by curbing your hunger. When you combine your fibre consumption with other essential lifestyle habits, such as eating healthier foods and moving more often, you can increase belly fat loss even more.

4. It prevents diseases: Chronic illness, which is caused by adopting an unhealthy lifestyle, is the biggest cause of mortality in the United States. According to the Centres for Illness Control and Prevention, smoking, poor diet, lack of exercise, and excessive alcohol use are the leading causes of chronic disease, which includes heart disease, cancer, and diabetes (CDC). Therefore, we must make healthy food choices.

5. It saves you money: Eating a nutritious, well-balanced diet gives you all the necessary vitamins and minerals you require each day, perhaps obviating the need for dietary supplements. Hence, you get to save some money. Supplement benefits are ambiguous, according to research, and there are significantly more health advantages linked with merely consuming a range of healthy meals. Also, because eating healthy prevents diseases, it cuts out the cost of incurring medical bills and health emergencies.

How to inculcate healthy eating into your daily diet
It might be intimidating to assume that you have to change your eating habits all at once if you aim to eat healthier. Here are three-pointers to get you started;

  • Make a diet plan for your new healthy eating habits: When trying to eat healthily, the first thing to do is to create a definite and detailed plan of action. You can start with your breakfast; instead of eating a fast-food breakfast, plan to have a piece of whole-grain toast with peanut butter at home.

  • Out of sight is out of mind: Remove any unhealthy foods from your cupboard and refrigerator, focus on bringing only healthy foods into your home. That way, you'll have a higher probability of eating nutritious foods and a lower possibility of consuming junk food. Also, ensure you purchase all the fruits, veggies, and other plant-based foods that you'll need so you don’ make unhealthy choices due to their unavailability.

  • Start small and set achievable goals: Slow and steady wins the race. Therefore, you should start small and set attainable goals. It could be as simple as adding one more dish of vegetables to your supper this week. Just ensure you follow through and in no time you will see results!

This post is very detailed and well thought out. A pity about the lack of pictures in it, but the information that you have provided here is very important, anyway. I particularly liked your "reasons you should eat healthily". Also, I learned a new word from reading this post. I hadn't come across "inculcate" before, and you used it in context a couple of times in this post. Thanks for educating me!
