Hey Hive!
Even though there are still people getting covid, it's basically being treated like a cold these days so thankfully almost everything is back to normal now! There are no more restrictions on dining these days and you don't even have to wear a mask anymore if you don't want to! It's a huge relief and this allows us to try different food places again!
The other day we were in one of our neighbourhood malls and came across this new burger shop that opened beside the food court that looked pretty good! It's called Burgs and the last time we were here during peak dinner time there was a long line outside the store so we figured it must be pretty good.
So we went there for a pre-dinner snack when thankfully there weren't many people around so we could take our time to peruse the menu.
They boast making quality burgers affordable for diners who want chef-driven gourmet meals at everyday prices. And judging from the menu it does seem to be pretty affordable compared to other burger places. They had classic burger flavours like chicken, beef and chicken, but also some local flavours like a tempeh burger (which is a fermented soybeans patty) and some unconventional flavours like marinara burger.
They also have a pretty affordable deal for students where you can get the chicken burger and fries for only a dollar more instead of 2 dollars more for non-students.
They also have this thing called Smash Box which I think is more like a bento box with the meat and fries stacked together? I'm not entirely sure. We were thinking of trying it but since the store is called Burgs we felt like we should probably try their burgers first.
Since this was our first time trying Burgs and we weren't super hungry, we decided to share a Mushroom Beef Burger as it's one of my go-to burger flavours. I also wanted to compare with another burger joint we used to frequent where they had my favourite mushroom burger.
If you just get the burger it's the most affordable but we decided to top up our order with fries and a drink as well. Unfortunately it's not free flow drinks but the cup is pretty big so even just 1 cup is enough soda imo.
We waited for a bit for our order to be ready and shortly after it was ready for pickup! Their kitchen is pretty open so we could see and hear them preparing it.
They even have a wall of merchandise near the back of the shop which looked pretty cool. I think they were just for display though I'm not sure if any of it is actually for sale.
But anyway, here's our burger! It looked and smelled so delicious! The bun was nice and crisp on top, the patty and mushrooms looked juicy and the fries looked crunchy!
We tried the fries first and it was indeed crunchy and nicely salted, unlike the McDonalds' here now. It was also nice and warm and tasted like they just fried it.
The burger itself was really good too! The patty was a bit thinner than I expected but it was nice and juicy and complemented the mushrooms really well. It wasn't a portobello mushroom but sliced button mushrooms which was still pretty good. There wasn't a strong mushroom taste so it didn't overpower the savouriness of the beef patty.
Overall though it was pretty good; maybe not as gourmet as some other burger joints which are double the price but for how affordable it is I'd say it's decent and delicious! With our other favourite burger joint being so expensive now I think Burgs just became our new go-to burger spot!
I did some research and apparently Burgs is a homegrown Muslim owned burger spot here in Singapore! From my research I found out the company is called Project Warung and they seemed to want to start different franchises selling different items, one for burgers and one for fried chicken. Unfortunately the fried chicken branch called Birdhaus didn't take off and ended up closed. But on the bright side, Burgs is doing well with over 7 outlets now!
So if you're ever in the mood for a burger but on a budget, I'd say Burgs is definitely worth a try!
