Lunch At Magnolia Cafe - A Heavenly Culinary Paradise

Recently, cafe hopping or more like capering, bistro bouncing, teahouse tittering and brunch bounding has become less of a past-time and more like a literal adventurous habit, that revolves around quality ambience, delicious delicacies and necessitates a must-have caffeine fix.

Hidden amongst the bustling streets of Port-of-Spain is the southern inspired, New Orleans styled, Magnolia Cafe. Derived from the Latin word Magnolius, the cafe itself stands true to its name "of great excellence".

My cousins and I excitedly headed inside for an impromptu birthday celebration, on a lovely Sunday afternoon. As soon as we reached its doors, we were met with a stunning view of the northern range hills.

As we glided through the glass doors, we were met with a very polished and premium look and feel, that carried with it a tasteful blend of modern contemporary elements and soft lighting which created a unique setting and maintained an open and inviting ambience.

We were immediately seated by the host and warmly received into the seating area which could accommodate for both solo visitors, friend groups or the casual business meeting.

What was quite interesting about this cafe, was the central focus of the room was a small bar space, where one could sit for a quick drink or while awaiting a take-away meal. They also offered on the spot,smoothies, mocktails and cocktails in addition to hot beverages.

Magnolia Cafe deems itself to be the bearers of the brunch revival here in Trinidad and Tobago and it showcases a very diverse southern inspired menu that ranges from Lemon-Mascarpone Pancakes, truffle mac and cheese and the Jaxon - Shrimp Burger to name a few.

We started our order off our order with drinks and then entrees.

The cafe's culinary creations really came to life in it's entree selections, with a vast combination of local and international flavours coming into play. We. started with a side of seasoned, straight cut fries, as we were all munchy for that comfort food feeling while awaiting the main course.

My selection was the Spinach Mushroom Risotto, a decadent mix of
Risotto with spinach and mushrooms, drenched in creamy tarragon sauce. The dish coloured your tastebuds and harmonized the flavours perfectly.

My boyfriend tried the cheesy grits, while my cousins had the mac and cheese and Nola Fried Chicken Burger which comprised of Country-Styled Cajun BBQ Fried Chicken and Bacon glazed in maple syrup, with lettuce, Tomatoes. Getting hungry yet?

The steaming hot food and enchanting smell compelled us to dive into the meal, not to mention the spicy conversation kept us there till evening.

With our bellies filled and energy restored, our adventure bug was reignited and we decided to take a drive to the north west peninsula of the island called Chaguaramas, as the evening lights would have been a visual treat as the evening progressed. Chaguaramas, being so close to the coastline also is host to a lot of activities such as the The Chaguaramas Boardwalk, yacht club, water park, Macqueripe Beach and offers kayaking and other water sports.

As the night progressed, we blasted music and sang loudly at the top of our lungs, feeling the wind pressed against our faces as we reconnected and reminisced about our younger days.

Being a Sunday,most places in the area were bustling with families, loved ones and friends spending time together before the next workweek began and the reality of life stepped back to the forefront. However, luckily for us we found this cosy little nook on the side of the coastline.

The magnificent colours, playfully reflecting on the soft, rippling water. The sound of the gentle roll on the water's edge and the giggles of the two playing children enjoying the small freedom of feeling the sand between their toes as they ran along the sandy border.

It was a moment we stood together as we hugged on each other and took in the view. Forgetting life's stresses just for a moment - being fully present, allowing our senses to be completely overwhelmed as we absorbed every moment.

Suddenly, as we gazed into the evening skyline, right above our heads we caught sight of a falling star. What a treat to end the evening, being the amataeur astronomists we were. Immediately, we all made our silent wishes.

What an unforgettable day, filled with tantalising food, intriguing company and ongoing adventures.
