Trip to Tasmania

There are many ways to travel. You can see the spaces, the people, the culture, the building, but my favourite way to travel and explore a place is through their cuisine and their food scene.

Earlier this year, I travelled to Tasmania, Australia with my husband and these are some of our gastronomical adventures.

Sandwiches and Pie from Banjo's

A visit to Tasmania is incomplete without a trip to Banjo's for the bread, sandwiches, pies and sweet treats. It is one of the things my husband misses the most since moving out.

Everything was so fresh and the portion is big! I was definitely very full for breakfast when I had sandwiches from Banjo.

Oysters

Tasmania is famous for their fresh oysters. We ordered a handful different toppings with them and also the fresh ones when we were at Barilla Bay Oyster Farm .

Our favourite from the ones we tried are smoked paprika garlic butter, english mustard mornay and the spinach cream and blue cheese.

the seafood platter we shared apart from the oysters.

Thali at Taj

My husband will never miss a chance to rave about this place each time we have Indian food in Perth.

"Yea, this is good, but nothing is comparable to Taj. Wait until you get there"

Oh boy, was I eating my words for being a sceptic.

I've never have a thali before, so my lovely husband help me out when we were there at Taj Palace Restaurant . The best way I can describe a thali is a tasting plate. You get rice, nan, and 3-4 different curry to enjoy.
Every single thing serve was delicious and it taste like home cooked, like it was all made with lots of love and care.

The food were so good, this is the only photo I have as I was to busy stuffing my face away. 😆

National Pie & Hartz drinks

Another gem of Tasmania that my husband rave non-stop about -National pies, especially the chicken and camembert fillings. And after my first bite, I fall in love.

At a glance I would not have think anything special of these Hartzwater, but after drinking them, they are surely superior than normal drink, especially still water. Now, I don't condone buying bottled water purely because of negative environmental effects, but as they comes in glass bottles and they implement environmentally sensitive production methods, I feel less guilty indulging them while I am on holiday.

Pancake train

This one is a treat for me, as I do have a sweet tooth. We are lucky to be able to schedule in a visit on a weekday, as many review mention it being full on weekend. We arrive as soon as they opened, practically the first customers there, and the train is full by the time we left. There are other vendors too operating on the other carts of the train, but the pancake place is the most popular.

More oysters

On our day trip to Bruny Island, we ate more oysters. We had a dozen before of cruise trip, and another dozen after. Only because they were so fresh and delicious.

We didn't even have to get out of the car for them because there's a drive-through, specifically to buy only oysters. Now this is the kind of drive-through food I can get behind!

I'm sure the is more food scene in Tasmania that I need to try. Perhaps that'sthe only sign I need to make another visit here.
