My Non Failed Soft Chocolate Chip Cookie

Who doesn’t love cookies?

I love cookies but American cookies are something else. Where I am from, cookies that we know are basically “biscuits” and just shortbread or sugar cookies. We do have chocolate chip cookies but it’s mostly commercial products, like “ahoy”. American cookies, on the other hand, are another realm to explore. I learned about these cookies about five years ago when I started watching two broke girls and just wanted to try making cupcakes and cookies. Lately in cafes and even all around, new york cookies or even chewy cookies are making their way into the spotlight. People all around the country started to open cookie shops with typical chocolate chip cookie dough but with various flavors.

When I first started baking these cookies, it was terrible. It had a flour taste and it wasn’t evenly spread. I tried the recipe from a cooking blog but that was just a disaster. Fast forward, I baked this cookie again, from scratch. I found the recipe from a youtube channel of preppy kitchen (classic chocolate chip cookies) with some modification that I made due to ingredients inavailability.

Chocolate chip cookies are basic but sometimes we don’t do them well enough. I think even today when I baked these cookies, there were some missed steps and even a wrong temperature of my oven and the butter. So, keep in mind when making chocolate chip cookies, you have to make sure everything is just right.

From that youtube channel, I learned that he was even chilling his dough. When I tried baking with slightly chilled dough, the cookie wasn’t properly spread. Later I learned, my oven temperature was too high and I need to set the dough to room temperature even after chilling it.

So basically all you need to make a good soft chocolate chip cookies are

  • Flour
  • Butter
  • egg
  • Baking soda
  • Brown sugar
  • White sugar
  • Vanilla extract
  • Salt
  • Chocolate chips

Salt is really optional but it certainly adds a savory sweet taste into your cookies. Temperature when baking the cookie is also important. You do not want to burn the cookie. So I tried 180C for 20-25 minutes with a traditional oven. If you have a normal electrical oven that’s going to take 15-20 without you having to look at it often.

The steps are basically separating dry and wet ingredients. Start with mixing room temperature butter with brown sugar(this time I was using liquid brown sugar) and white sugar until it is softened and light colored. Add 1 large egg or 2 small eggs then mix it with a mixer.

In a separate bowl, mix flour with baking soda, with vanilla extract and salt to your taste. Then, after the wet ingredients are properly mixed, add the dry ingredients and then prepare your oven. Make sure it’s 180C and preheated. You can use ice cream scoops like I did but you can also use your hands to transfer the dough into the baking sheet.

After 20-25 minutes inside the oven, your cookies are done. Mine has a chocolatey brownie soft cakey texture. In this recipe, My mistake was that my butter was slightly too cold and I didn’t weigh my flour because apparently I added just a few ounces too much from its original recipe. But everyone at home loved it despite the non-visually pleasing shape. I honestly can bake more of these cookies and with more fillings and even other textures since I watched and read, there are many textures and consistencies to try. Just like I said, American chocolate chip cookies are a whole realm to explore.

Who doesn’t love cookies?

Have never met such a person...

:D

😂 right? nobody can resist any type of cookies!

I tried though... From the beginning of this year, I made a deal not to take coffee and anything with caffeine. And I added for myself not to take refined sugar, cakes, or anything that contains it ( so no bread either)

I was doing well, very well for some months... and then I went back first with bread, pasta, then cookies too and everything hahaha 😂
Now I can't skip it... I should switch back to the strict regime again... but no real desire for avoiding cookies lol. I just know it would be better maybe

And even coffee is finding its way more and more times 😬😔

I love all the cookies, but the ones with chocolate chips are my favorite, they look very tasty! I'm going to buy the ingredients to prepare this recipe and enjoy a tasty snack with my mother.
I wish you a happy Tuesday, a hug!

yesterday I bought different chips and going to bake them again. Have you ever tried matcha chocolate chip cookies? they're even more tastier than this classic one hehe. If I have matcha, I would definitely make one in that version. Thanks for checking out though, Happy Wednesday!

Amo las galletas para merendar 😁

jajaa misma aquí!

😋🍪🍪🍪🤤

I love chocolate cookies😍😍😍. This looks yum. I would make it for my nephew this weekend.

YES! they're going to love it. I used to think they were difficult to make but once I get the basics, it's pretty simple actually.

These look delicious. Just like in the bakery. I tried a similar recipe and it was successful. I've saved yours to try one day. I hope I can succeed 😂😂.

You did? if you can find matcha powder, you should try it also add some chocolate chunks and be generous. When I see that picture, I feel like I wasn't being generous with my chips haha. I probably should make some baklava soon before leaving my parent's house. Otherwise, I'd have no access to oven like now.

I think I found some on the internet but it looks quite expensive. Time will decide whether I will try it or not. I'm always generous with my recipes, no doubt about that hahaha. I am also looking forward to your baklava recipe. I'm curious to see how you make it and how it looks.

Ohmyy! I've been craving this for quite a while already, and I'm seeing this now at 6:41 AM. My goodness! Sadly, I don't have an oven here in my apartment. 😔

Since I am staying at my moms, I have the opportunity to make those cookies, once I am back, no more baking for me😂. So I feel you! whenever I see post like this, I definitely wish I have oven with me.

Oh that my favorite cookie, the perfect snack. I only bake it myself one time, For best results, bake cookies on middle oven rack. For even baking, it’s best to bake one sheet at a time.

Baking them one sheet at time was the thing I did. I also bake them in the middle as opposed to bottom part of it. I noticed the ones I baked at the bottom burned quicker, so that's why I moved them up and making sure my oven was exactly 180C otherwise, it's too hot and going to burn pretty quickly. Thanks for that reminder!

This makes me want to a cookie right now! Tye first time i baked cookies was in high school some decade ago. Ahaha. And it was a terrible one but i love it! Thats also the door that opened to my love for baking. Sadly i dont own an oven right now. Buttttttt you made me crave for a chewy cookie 😭🤤🤤🤤

We had a fair share of terrible cookies haha and yeah, you should get a chewy cookies,I still have to figure out how to make them chewy instead soft-cake texture.

I know you'll get it . And if you do gimmeee thy recipeee

Basic but very divine these cookies with a good coffee I will practice this recipe.

Pretty much! there are so many texture that you can work on this basic recipes.
