I've never been to a samgyeopsal restaurant before but I have plans to try it out soon with my family or close friends. It's just that it's difficult to invite them now compared to before because everyone is busy with their own lives, especially in academics. Our schedules and vacant days are not aligned with each other leaving an impression on us that we need to set an appointment first just to spend days like before. A pretty good indication that we're in the process of "ADULTING". More ways to go.
But since I'm still craving this and my mother as well. I suggested to my mama that if we can't go to the nearest samgyeopsal restaurant then what if we bring the samgyup to our house? A smart idea, don't you think? With an exertion of convincing power, I manage to persuade mama to try it out and she said that we are about to do it on dinner night. Samgyup as our dinner? I will not be full for sure as well as the others. So basically, rice will never leave the Filipino table. Lol.
In the afternoon, my parents go to the market to buy some necessities. They spent about an hour before they finally got back home. The first thing that I did is to check if mama purchased what she need to purchase for our dinner. I need to make sure because you know sometimes they tend to forget things already, the consequence of being old. Additionally, I'm a bit excited because I waited for it a long time ago so my eagerness to try this with my family skyrocketed.
At exactly 6:00 in the evening, we prepared the things for our samgyeopsal session. My mother started to cook hams and bacon while I on the other hand is thoroughly rinsing the lettuce leaves to make sure that dirt, small worms, and insecticides are not present especially since we will eat the leaves raw. Compared to the traditional way of eating Samgyeopsal wherein you will cook hams, bacon, and other side dishes on the table we preferred not to do so because we believe that it will take a lot of time. We're not that patient when we are hungry so we chose the best easy path.
After washing the green fresh lettuce leaves, I compiled them and put them on a plate. One plate is not enough so I divided it into two, I don't want the lettuce to look like a mountain of leaves though so it's better this way. I also prepare the other two plates for the hams and bacon. Since those two are oily, I put some table napkins at the top of the plate to absorb some oil. I tried to design it in some way to look more pleasing on the camera but I failed to do so. Look at those arrangements! Haha. But at least I tried. It's just that, it's not my forte and I need some more practice to do.
Everything is ready when I notice that the sauce is not yet prepared so I rushed to heat it. It is the Ssamjang Sauce. My mother bought one spicy and not spicy since my sister doesn't like spicy foods. Once heated, I put it in its original container and arrange the placements of the foods on the table before taking a picture. A blogger won't forget to capture a photo first before doing the main deed, am I right?
After that, we called papa and my other sibling to eat. And as expected, they didn't forget to remind us about the rice. Rice is life for us, gain calories, gain weight!
Just a short background about this dish, Samgyeopsal is a South Korean delicacy that we often see in different Korean novelas. It means three-layered meat. I don't know when Filipinos started to adopt this but one thing is for sure, a lot of Filipinos enjoyed this so far that's why a lot of Samgyeopsal restaurants opened in different malls and communities.
How about you? Have you already tried this one? If yes, how's your experience? Did you enjoy it? If not, do you have plans to try this soon?

Ehh~ I suddenly miss samgyup! We often order now a days and not going to samgyup resto. They provided all the cooking stuff also! Ugh, might order some kimchi right now on Shapi!
PS. miss u khai!
I think this is your sign to eat samgyup again and other side dishes haha.
Missu guys!
I have tried it before with my brother and friends. I was actually not a fan of Korean foods so I rarely go to Samgyeopsal restaurant. On the other hand, I love the fact that your family is ready to try this since you know, it's a kind of new dish for them as well. I like the ham as the substitute though.
I really can't eat with much lettuce, tbh. I just want a bit of lettuce then add more rice into it. Kimchi is best to add on top as well. I'm glad you tasted and tried Samgyeopsal for the first time and with your family, too. It was awesome. Have some !PIZZA
It's our first time trying this Korean dish at home and I'm glad that we enjoyed it. When this became a trend, my mom always want to try this too but since she has a tight schedule at work we improvised. Lol. I can eat lettuce as much as I can but I will make sure that it has some bacon or ham then dip it in the sauce. It's a nice combination tho.
Yeah, I would love to try this at home, too. Bacon and ham is really a good combo though.

Aww this is much sweeter and for sure taste better specially you are eating it at home with the family. I think I prefer this than to eat sa mga Samgyeop-salan, huehue. I can't still remove my facemask kasi in the public places, basta ayaw ko lang lelelel. And tbh, never pa kami nakapag samgyeop, huehue. Me iz inggit khai khai.
Try mo na rin ate roppa kahit sa bahay lang, mas enjoyable siya since kasama mo fam mo then partneran ng alak eme AHAHAH and with a little bit of karaoke 🎤
To be honest, pampatakam talaga ito to persuade the readers na mabudol like us haha.
Ahahaha. Well effective sya haha
Kakatakam nkapunta lang ako dto kpag ksama sla boss. Ang mahal kc nyan dto
Ow how much po estimated diyan ate Jane?
HK$500-700.. So almost 5k in pesos na yan 😂
Nakakamiss talaga mag samgyup hano? May kanya kanyang schedules.
Try mo na rin ang samyeop soon with your mom and family, for sure masaya iyan. And i-blog mo na rin hahhaa
Those fresh green lettuce are yum! I normally would skip the rice and put loads of lettuce to sub. I love Korean dishes, they are delectable and my fave is the Seafood Kimchi Pajeon.
!PIZZA
Love eating samgyeopsal! You gave me an idea to make one on my own. Been tired of having salad everyday and I'm looking for easy to cook recipes that don't involve rice! 😆 Lettuce and meat would do the trick. will have to research first an alternative for the sauce.
Set aside the diet for today Ms. Clara haha masarap lumamon kapag kasama ang pamilya or friends. Huwag pigilan ang sarili charr. I-blog na iyannn abangan ko soon
Omg such a super rich dinner!😍
Delicious. Thanks for sharing
Glad your family is kinda adventurous with food! Some parents aren't really that and they usually say NO to unfamiliar cuisines like this one.
Making it at home is the best! There's no time limit, and you could prepare everything you want. You can simply add your own touch too.
Didn't know you need to heat the sauce. I don't so it's usually cold when I eat it at home 😅
I agree with this! Some parents are not that eager to try new dishes especially if they are not familiar with them but I'm still glad that they are ready to accept the challenge to try something new and they like it so I expect more like this in the future 😂
My wife and I are fan of SamG too! There are times wherein I cook and marinate some Sukiyaki cuts and Bacon cuts in our home just to make tawid the experience. Aside from the meat, I also prepare some potato marbles on the side at sympre ang lettuce para feels lalo ang experience.
