Sizzling and Savory 🔥 Filipino Dishes: Pork Sisig and Bulalo

Hello, Foodies! 😋✨

Have you tried bone marrow or a pig’s snout?😁

Sounds exotic to foreigners, but I swear, you will be amazed by the big flavors that you have never tried before. 😉 Lemme tell you something about Filipino cuisines! 😀

Filipino cuisine is a mix of different cuisines, then turned into our own version. At this restaurant, we tried the famous bulalo and the pork sisig. 😋🔥

Bulalo means “Beef shank and bone marrow soup,” and Bulaluhan means beef shank and bone marrow soup house, and Laong Laan is the name of the street.

This is the counter that people had to line up to place the order. I noticed that there were stickers of some food bloggers on the glass panel. So my hopes for this place had gone higher. 😤

The kitchen was hot, and the staff were in a scramble because they also take delivery orders. It was a hard conversation because of the machines and people chattering in the background.

After placing the order, the refreshments were on the other side. Choose your pill- cucumber or lemon? 🍋🥒

No one is manning the counter, so I had to call the attention of the staff coming out from the kitchen.

Since it was an open kitchen, naturally, the heat drifted into the dining area. It felt like I had a free sauna. It gets warm quickly where we were seated. ♨️😵

Luckily, the drinks were served before I started melting. At a glance, it looks refreshing. 😉🥒

But I noticed that drinks were filled with ice up to the brim. First sip was an instant relief on the throat, bruh. 😌

Judging from that sip, I was skeptical if this is powdered or half-powdered, though it has bits of the real fruit, so I will give it a pass. With the price of a dollar, I cannot complain.

Not gonna lie, but the service was slow that night. We just chatted and took a cute sip just to pass the time running. The staff were busy in the kitchen, but little food was coming out.

The heat and noise did not help me to calm my growing impatience, but what can I do? 20 minutes in, and finally, the first dish arrived. This dish is called Bulalo. 👏

bulaluhansalaonglaan10.jpg

By definition of Google, Bulalo is a popular, hearty Filipino beef soup featuring tender beef shanks and rich marrow from beef bones, simmered for hours to create a clear, flavorful broth. The veggies can be any leafy type, like peachy or cabbage. It adds freshness to balance out the oiliness of the beef soup.👏

Next is the sizzling pork sisig. 👏👏👏

It arrived on the table still sizzling on a hot plate. The oil is a bit splattering, so watch out! ♨️The sound made me hungrier. Traditionally, this is made from pork’s snout and face, then some chopped onions and chilis. Then it will be seasoned with soy and calamansi, topped with fried egg.

Now for the food review. The bulalo was warm... which was supposed to be hot. Yeah, the place was steaming like a sauna, but still, I want my bulalo to be hot. 😫

bulaluhansalaonglaan13.jpg

A pool of oil was already forming on the top coz it was not hot enough. The soup was okay, but I thought it was lacking some peppers. On the meat itself, it was super tender.

I was scared to try the bone marrow, so it went to my friend. She said I should try at least, so I took a tiny bit ahhhh~ it tasted like butter with 10 times the oiliness. It was not bad and not amazing as I expected.

On the pork sisig, I can already tell that it was packed with flavors. The meat was crunchy and chopped into perfect bite-sized pieces, not too big or small.

The chillies added a pop of color to the dish, and it was a little bit spicy, but it had a nice kick. I like the gooeyness of the yolk, and then I mixed it. It was delicious~ 😌

bulaluhansalaonglaan15.jpg
All in all, it was a pleasant experience. The food had highs and lows. The Bulalo was tender, which carried the dish, though I wish the soup was hot.

The bone marrow was like a little dare. I am glad I took a little bite. The pork sisig was the perfect balance and was a bit spicy (I like the little heat kick). That was a true Filipino cuisine! The flavors, texture, and, of course, the company! 😉🍴

the bulalo and sisig looks yummmm! annd I agree, bulalo is best when it's hot. they should've served it with a food warmer to keep it hot.

The only taba I tried na mejo similar sa bone borrow was the bangus belly, hahaha. Winner yon for me. Lol. But gosh, the food arrives late so I thought maybe niluluto oa ang food but why bulalo is not hot hot, why just warm. Its more enjoyable if its hot talaga, kahit hipan pa sa init, but thats the fun part of it. Haha, tas pawisan na super init. Lol. Its a good thing that the meat is tender, pero sana hot pa rin haha. The sisig looks yum. Kakamis mag sisig eh.

I like bangus belly too! Tas dip it to toyomansi 😋 yum yum! Yeah, the soup was warm so really a bummer! ugh 😥
