It's my usual weekend grocery shopping at the local wet market and this week, it's all about lychee. The outside of the fruit is pink-red, roughly textured and inedible, covering sweet flesh eaten in many different dessert dishes. Mostly it is eaten fresh as it is while some put it into a sweet dessert soup served cold with jelly and nata de coco.
This is the season of fruits and there's plenty to choose from. Because these fruits can be exported out from the country, we have plenty to enjoy at really affordable prices. These here are displayed at one of the fruit stalls. 1 bundle of lychee is almost 1 kg and it cost only VND20,000 = USD0.86 = MYR3.66
It would be madness not to buy a bundle and enjoy it back home. It's very sweet unlike the ones I've eaten back home. Somehow, I feel I'm so pampered here with all the luxuries of fresh fruits and vegetables that I don't feel like going home. Then again, such luxuries only lasts for a short period of time.
This are the streets of the local market and since it's still early, the roads aren't that crowded yet. In addition, it's a Friday morning so many are working except for the housewives or those who are on unpaid leave like me. I do enjoy my walks in the local market; you never know what you can find in one of these stalls.
This is the one tag and weekly challenge that I try to make a point to join; not to mention that I'm also a fanatic when it comes to sight seeing or shopping in any form of market - indoors, outdoors, food, textile, accessories and etc.
It is always interesting to see the different markets around the globe!
There's so many different cultures and beauty in this world and the more we travel and open up our eyes, the more we gain.
It's easy to participate :
- Go to the market! Any market will do! Food, Clothing, Plant or Animal, if you wish. You can go to the zoo or an art auction. Anywhere or anything that you pay money for a service.
- Take pictures! Be creative (or not)
- Tell us a little bit about the market, what brought you here?
- Post the picture(s)
- Don’t forget to hashtag it! #MarketFriday by @dswigle

Nice Fruity friends 😊
Yes indeed :)
The prices are amazing, aren't they? It is unbelievable the amount of fruit that is stacked out there on all of the streets. You truly are just a little bit spoiled! :) I didn't realize that you weren't working yet. Will this extend your stay once things normalize a bit?
Which is your favorite fruit so far? I keep changing mine. Once a new one comes into season, I have a new favorite, all over again!I love that you bring me through the streets of Vietnam. It is always a pleasure to peruse the markets with you!
I cannot even begin to tell you how much I appreciate the love and support you are giving to #MarketFriday! There are so many challenges here on Hive and it warms my heart to see that you chose to be a part of this one. It is people such as yourself that made it into such a successful challenge! With the situation of the global crisis happening everywhere, I've been forced to take 3 days unpaid leave monthly since April. I'm not complaining because I still have my job and we all know that it is hard to sustain one. I'm blessed that I still have one.
Which is also why I choose to do my grocery in the local wet market. Any forms of saving money is important.
No fancy restaurant for me

I'm super miss vietnam market.. The lychee looks so fresh, beside the lychee is a fruit too right? I like to eat that too but never know what it call..
Hive Joanne.. How are you doing? Feeling much better I hope.
Make sure you & Aaron take care of each other ya.
And yes, it'a all fruits here.. papaya, buah nona and Vnmese oranges.
Because they can't be exported so there's oversupply here and it's very cheap.
Normally it would be about double the price.
Guess there are some goodness to all this gloomy sadness
