There's no denying that Filipinos love to eat. 🤤 Food is always a reason to come together, especially when it's free. 😉

One time, I was tasked to order food for our lunch after a meeting at the office. I was free to choose any type of food I wanted. And yes the food was going to be free! I was tempted to order something Italian like pasta. But on that day, I knew I wanted Filipino food.

If you're not familiar with Filipino food, there's always rice. That's our main source of carbs. Also, if you're eating in a Filipino restaurant, baked scallops will most probably be ordered as an appetizer. As an all-time favorite, Lumpia Shanghai or spring rolls will be present. Kare-kare or stew with a rich peanut sauce will be one of the mains. Grilled bangus or milkfish will be the food for the non-pork-eating folks. For the vegetable dish, pinakbet or sauteed mixed vegetables will be the top choice. Lastly, pancit noodles for additional carbs will be in order.

For our lunch, I ordered bagoong rice with egg. Bagoong is fermented shrimp paste, and it's extremely salty and savory. I also ordered the rest of the food I mentioned. Baked scallops, lumpia, kare-kare, bangus, pinakbet, pancit. These are some of the classics. If you find yourself in a Filipino restaurant or get to travel in the Philippines, these are definite must-tries.

My colleagues and I devoured the food and that was one of the best lunches I had in a while.
