Translation to English:
Hello everyone! 😁 I’m new to this wonderful community and I’m excited to share a little piece of my culture with you. I’m Cuban ❤️ and, as many of you know, the cuisine of my country is rich and varied, full of flavors 😋 that tell stories. Today, I want to talk to you about a very special sweet: buñuelos.
The history of buñuelos in Cuba reflects our cultural identity. Although their origin dates back to Spanish influence, we have adapted them on the island using native ingredients. Thus, Cuban buñuelos are mainly made with tubers like cassava, malanga, and sweet potato, which provide a unique flavor and a soft texture.
Here’s one way we can make them:
Ingredients:
• Half a kilo of cassava
• Half a kilo of malanga
• 2 eggs
• 1/2 tablespoon of anise
• 1 teaspoon of salt
• 1/2 cup of flour
• Oil for frying
Preparation is easy and simple:
- Peel the malanga and cassava.
- Cook them in boiling water, being careful not to soften them too much.
- Mash them until they form a puree.
- Knead the puree with the egg, anise, salt, and all the flour until you form a dough that doesn’t stick to your hands.
- Shape them into eights.
- Fry them in hot oil.
- Serve them with anise syrup.
You can serve them cold or hot depending on personal preference.
I hope that by sharing this recipe, you can enjoy a little piece of Cuba in your homes. I’m eager to hear about your experiences and learn from you too! ☺️🤗
