Hello lovelies! Hope y'all are doing great and staying safe.
Today Im here to share with you all some interesting story behind the iconic icecream called 'GUDBUD', which is a very popular icecream name today in entire world.
You might have eaten vanilla, strawberry, Butterscotch, chocolate etc icecreams individually. Also you might have enjoyed it with some fruit or a nut but anywhere have you heard of mixing the different flavours of scoops of icecreams together and adding rich nuts, fruits, jellies and making it a huge exotic icecream altogether!?
In local language the term GUDBUD refers to HURRY. This legendary icecream was invented in hurry burry and hence received the name!
Hotel Diana Gudbud
An interesting story behind it signifies it's speciality. It was originated in coastal town of India, Udupi's famous restaurant HOTEL DIANA, where once the restaurant visitors who were in hurry, ordered for different scoops of ice creams for them. But unfortunately due to the limited stock availability, owner of the hotel, MR.MOHANDAS PAI couldn't fulfill all the requests as they all were in hurry. Here he got an excellent idea, where he mixed the different scoops of all icecreams in a tall icecream mug together, added some chopped nuts, sugar soaked fruits and jellies to make a mug full icecream and gave a birth to this iconic royal edition. Visitors loved this new variant as it was very unique, beautiful with multiple colors & in a single jar various icecream varities were available to enjoy.
Happily returned customers reverted to restaurant after a couple of days and requested for an icecream which theh had savoured earlier which looked pretty, with varities & huge. Since no one knew the exact name by then, they coined the name as GUDBUD, which means the icecream which was served in hurry burry the other day to them!
Since then it took a special place in an ice cream list in almost all ice cream shops of South Canara in India. Interesting isn't it!!
Local cafe Gudbud
GUDBUD is basically a mixture of different varieties of ice cream scoops like strawberry, vanilla, butterscotch along with add-ons like crushed dry fruits, jellies, suger dipped fruits, cherries and so on. So it's richest and special huge mug of icecream.
Recent days, many restaurants and cafes have tried to replicate this beauty but taste wise no one could match the Hotel Diana's iconic masterpiece as they prepare icecream scoops inhouse!
If you by any chance happen to travel to southern part of coastal India, this Gudbud icecream must be in your food list for sure!
