A Day at Stephen's at Balay Puti: Silay's Ancestral House-Turned-Restaurant

During our vacation in Silay City, Negros Occidental, my cousins ​​did not miss the opportunity to take my siblings and I to a popular ancestral house-turned-restaurant in their hometown, the Stephen's at Balay Puti . They immediately encouraged us to go there with them, telling us that it's not just a spot with many delicious food but also it's rich with history.

My cousins ​​told me that Stephen's at Balay Puti is not an ordinary restaurant. The restaurant is housed in an ancestral house. This restaurant can be found in Calle Ledesma, Silay City which is known as the "Museum City" of Negros Occidental due to many ancestral houses in this city.

Stephen's at Balay Puti is open from Tuesday to Sunday, for lunch from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM, and dinner from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM. They are closed every Monday, so be sure to plan ahead when you visit.

To tell you a little bit of a story about the house, my cousins told me that it was once owned by Emilio Ledesma and Rosario Locsin. When it was passed to their daughter, Adela Ledesma, the mansion went through many changes.

The most remarkable part of the mansion is the famous story of Adela's life. According to my cousins, she was the one who removed the second floor of the house because she couldn't bear seeing his former lover and friend happily together on the same street every day. Indeed, this story is sure to captivate anyone who visits here.

As soon as you enter the restaurant, you will immediately feel the unique ambiance. It's like stepping back into the 1930s while enjoying modern cuisine.

I chose the Spaghetti , since I really am a spaghetti and carbonara lover since I was a child. After I tasted their spaghetti at Stephen's at Balay Puti, I can definitely say that it is now my new favorite version of spaghetti. They also offer other delicious food, such as their Empanada , Fish Tacos , French Fries , and more.

All of these were served by their courteous staffs which made our experience there even more special. With so many happy moments while eating at Stephen's, we didn't realize the time, we've been there for a long time already. But maybe that's how it really is when the conversation and the food is good and the surroundings are beautiful, it's like you don't want to leave.

After that day, I can really say that Stephen's at Balay Puti is more than just a restaurant, it also transports you to Silay City's past. From its delicious food to its fascinating story, this ancestral house-turned-restaurant offers an amazing and memorable experience.
