The first meal in NY.

After my fam in NY picked us up from the airport a little after 8:00 am on August 1st, they took us to get the most stereotypical American breakfast, pancakes and eggs ( is it just me or is that the stereotype?) Interestingly, a day or two before, I made myself a stereotypical American breakfast in Japan, guess I was jumping the gun.

Like everyone else in my party of 7, I was jetlagged, but it was here that my duty as translator and interpreter would start. The waitress, Sam, a tall, thick ( muscular thick) white young lady came and gave us the menus as well as a good ole American dinner type greeting.

Looking at the menu and realizing that no one in my party of seven wanted to try and order themselves, it was up to me to flesh out the menu of omelets, pancakes and other calorie packing bites and help them decide what they wanted. My fam in NY looked on wondering if I'd be ok 😆. I did my best, but it was nerve wrecking trying to hold conversation with fam and getting the orders right after that world-wind flight and fight with jetlag ( Narita, Japan ✈️ San Francisco ✈️ NYC ). Interestingly our waitress Sam got it all down without even writing on piece of paper or poking on a tablet. What a goddess.

When the food came, it was then I realized I made a very wise decision not to order anything for myself and thank God I didn't. The servings were huge, I forgot how huge servings were here or maybe I thought they scaled things back, but no~~~~. Huge omelets and pancakes covered the table and next to them were our jaws in awe.

Me not ordering anything reminded my cousin of an Anansi story, one where he eats a little from everyone and ends up eating more than most. While that was not the case (IMO), it should have been. Our party of 9 left so much food on the table it looked like we just started eating, it felt so American though 😆.

The name of the place is called BrownStone and the exact location is in Edge Water, So if you are ever in the area check it. Besides the food, the store itself is pretty over the top with furniture hanging upside down from the ceiling and UFO catcher machines in the corners. Wish I took more pics but jet lag is a bitch.
