Easy Recipe - Vietnamese Sesame Buns with ground mung bean stuffing (gluten free and vegan friendly)

Hi everyone, how are you today?

Today I would like to share one of my favorite recipes. This vegan dish is called “Bánh Cam” in Vietnamese. This is a very popular snack of Southern Vietnamese people, specially Saigonese like us.

For us who left our country many years ago, we miss so much the snacks that make us reminisce about our childhood in every bite.

There are very difficult to find enough Vietnamese ingredients in the small country like Lithuania, so most of ingredients we prepare are made from raw products or veggie by ourselves.

Today I will share the simplest recipe of making these nice buns for you guys:

1. Ingredients:

Glutinous Rice Flour (if you cannot find this flour, then grind the raw glutinous rice by very strong blender until it turns to smooth powder.)

300gr

Water

500ml

Flour of Mung Beans or Green Beans(if you cannot find this flour, then grind the raw beans by very strong blender until it turns to smooth powder.)

250gr

Undefined sugar (golden)

60gr

Coconut Milk (full fat 28%)

100ml

Powdered salt

8gr

veggie oil (for frying)

300ml

Roasted sesame

150gr

2. Prepare:

  • The cover / the rice dough

+ Pour 150ml water into a small pot on an oven with a medium fire.

+ Add all the glutinous rice powder in the pot

+ Add 5gr powdered salt in the pot.

+ Stir gently until they mix well into a solid white dough.

+ Turn off the oven and leave the white dough

+ Leave the rice dough cool down in 15 mins

  • The stuffing / the bean dough:

+ Pour 150ml water in a sauce pan on an oven with a medium fire.

+ Add all ground mung beans (powder) in the pan. and

+ Add all undefined sugar in the pan.

+Add 3gr undefined sugar in the pot.

+ Stir gently until they mix well into a solid yellow dough.

+ Leave the stuffing dough cool down in 15 mins.

    • After 15 mins of cooling down the doughs

+ Divide the rice dough into 10 pcs of small rice dough.

+ Divide the bean dough into 10 pcs and shape them to small balls.

    • How to stuff the rice dough:

+ each of bean dough is a stuffing for a rice dough.

+ First, knead the divided rice dough on your hand, then put a stuffing ball in the middle of the rice dough.

+ Second, use your fingers to knead the rice dough with until it covers completely the stuffing ball.

+ Third, add all roasted sesame in a small empty bowl. Roll the finished dough (with stuffing inside already) in the sesame bowl. Make sure the finished dough is covered fully by sesame.

    • Continue to repeat these above steps with the rest of rice doughs until no more doughs.
    • Fry them with the veggie oil until they turn light brown.

    3. Serve:

    • Leave these freshly fried buns on the blotting papers to help drain most frying oil from the buns.
    • Just around 6-7 mins, the bun is cooled down and you can eat. Green tea is a good company with these vegan buns.

Hope you try our recipe some day. If any of my English writings confuse you, please kindly let me know. I will correct it immediately and explain it to you.
