Hello, friends especially foodies!
Last Saturday I needed to go to my company’s main office building at 10 AM plus at 1 PM in needed to attend an important zoom meeting too, but Saturday for me is family time, so I asked mom to join me, she was waiting for me in the mall right in front of the office building. After I finished from the office, I joined mom and we then decided to have our lunch in the best place where you could find authentic dishes of my city.
The Outlook of the Restaurant
The restaurant placed on 3A floor of the shopping center, and when we arrived there at around 12.30, there had been already some customers there.
The Interior & The Dining area
As you could see, it had the retro glam theme for the interior, with soft grey color and also brown color. They had comfy, homy, clean and neat dining area, this place would make you stay longer. Some of the chairs made from rattans while the other were sofa, soft and cozy.
The Menu
Like the name that means, the tribe came originally from this city, this restaurant served our city’s authentic menus, some ordinary you could find in any places while some were rare. For the soup menus they had garang asem soup, lontong cap gomeh, betawi laksa, oxtail soup, chicken curry, rawon (black beef soup), pindang bandeng, noodle soto, betawi soto, chicken soto or ketupat sayur. They also had satay (lamb or chicken), water spinach noodle, rice noodle, fried rice, oxtail fried rice, lamb fried rice, tektek noodle, stinky green bean fried rice, and chicken fried rice. For the rice packages, they had uduk rice with presto chicken, rice with presto chicken and sour vegetables soup, ulam complete rice, yellow rice rames (mixed) rice, and yellow rice uduk rice.
They also still had beef semur uduk rice, rendang mixed rice, timbel rice with empal beef and sour vegetables soup, uduk rice with empal or uduk rice with rendang. And they still had some ulek-ulekan like eff tofu, betawi asinan, ketoprak, rojak, squid rojak (mom’s favorite) and others. Also they had gejrot tofu, meatballs, baked banana or toast, even they had fried cassava too. Still they had some side dishes like beef empal, chicken or any ala carte dishes.
While for the drink, they had soft drinks, mineral water, orange, lime even some iced dessert like doger iced, mixed iced, teller iced and others. They also got some punch, coffees, teas, even mocktails or traditional drinks.
So many dishes and beverages to choose there.
The Food & The Outlook
After had ordered, we needed to wait for another 15 minutes to get our food delivered. Here how our lunch looked
Mine, the rice was wrapped in banana leaves, actually was their timbel rice with empal beef and sour vegetables soup. While mom, she had her favorite squid rojak (authentic dish from my city). And while we enjoyed them, we also ordered the dessert. Guess what? Good thing is you could know it by reading next section of this article.
The Taste & The Flavour (Dessert included)
Now I reach the most important thing of dishes, taste and flavour.. Started from my main dish.
Timbel Rice Empal Beef and Sour Vegetables Soup
I needed to open the baked rice first. It tasted like original white rice. It served with the empal beef, so juicy but well cooked, the empal had soft non fat texture with sweet and savory flavour. It was tasty beyond expectation, this was supposed how empal originally tasted.. So perfect and you should try it too. I ate this with the perfect spicy sweet sambal (chilli paste) they gave. It also served with savory fried tofu and tempeh.
Also it completed with the perfect sour vegetables soup which had fresh sour and sweet flavour. It had melinjo leaves, melinjo, corn, jackfruit, peanut and also siames pumpkin. They used high quality of them all. So perfect too!
Squid Rojak
even for the squid rojak they made a perfect one. It had roasted dried squid, noodle, lettuce, boiled potato, sliced cucumber with the melinjo chips on the top. The authentic paste had a mixture of flavour between sweet, sour, savory and a bit spicy. You must try it! And like they always do, they used only high quality ingredients also here.
We also enjoyed their dessert there
Mixed iced
Mom asked all their syrup, coconut milk and also sweet milk to serve separately so they really did it. It had the fresh young coconut, grass jelly, kolang kaling, jelly, fermented cassava (tape), and also jackfruits. It was fresh, sweet with a bit savory flavour from the coconut milk. We loved it cause it tasted fresh and it made with high quality ingredients. I think you should try it too!
The Price
It was 164,010 IDR or around 11.5 USD for all, I think it was a fair price compare to the taste and also ingredients they used.

Rice baked in banana leaves?? That's an innovation right there... I will love to try that. I am sure you really enjoyed your meals.
Yes, we have many rice baked in banana leaves here and mostly they put some meats there too.. you should try it. Yes, both of us really enjoyed our dishes that day. Thanks for passing by
