Hello, Hive friends! How is life at the moment? I hope it feels great despite the challenges and trials in life. I hope you can spend a little time reading and supporting my new blog. I'll be sharing with you my cooking experience on the birthday of my mother-in-law.
On August 18, my in-law went to our house and asked me to write down the ingredients for her favorite pancit miki guisado. I was lying on the bed since I was drained for the first three weeks of teaching in school with my new subjects this school year. My wife told me that I needed to write down the ingredients, and when I went outside the bedroom, the eldest sister of my wife asked me if it was okay to cook the pancit. Since I love cooking, I responded yes and offered that we'd be the ones to go to the market to buy the needed ingredients.
We then went to the market, and we bought 3 kilograms of pork meat and the other ingredients. My in-law wanted to give some to the neighbors, so we needed to buy 4 kilograms of miki. So the following are the ingredients we bought from the market:.
Ingredients:
3 kilograms of pork meat
4 kg of miki
2 pieces of whole cabbage
1 pc. carrot
3 pieces of bell pepper
1 sachet of oyster sauce
1 pound of soy sauce
2 tbsp. vinegar
Black pepper
Onion
Garlic
Oil
Salt to taste
When we arrived home, we asked Vangie to prepare the ingredients by cutting the meat, vegetables, and spices. I started cooking at 4:00 pm so that we could share it with the neighbors before dinner time. I decided to cook outside the house of my mother-in-law because I needed to use a large cooking pan for this. Here is the procedure.
Procedure:
1st:
Heat the pan.
Medium heat fire using firewood. It needs experience to maintain it. 😄
2nd:
Add oil to the pan.
I just added enough oil since the miki is already oily.
3rd:
When the oil is hot enough not to burn the spices, sauté the spices.
4th:
Add the sliced pork meat.
5th:
Add oyster sauce, soy sauce, and vinegar.
Mixing it well.
6th:
Pour in enough water to cook the miki.
7th:
Add condiments to taste.
8th:
Add the cabbage, julienned carrot, and miki and mix it well until cooked.
I was like crying because the smoke hurts my eyes. 😅
They are patiently covering the food from the rain.
9th step:
Serve while it is still hot to savor the best taste of pancit miki guisado.
And it's ready to serve.
In the middle of my cooking, the rain poured. I have told my wife to put fire under the roof outside the house of her mom, but she has not listened. So it gave me a hard time, but luckily her niece was around, and she asked her to use an umbrella to cover the food from the rain. The birthday celebrant also helped cover her granddaughter from the rain.
The food was cooked well, and my wife then started giving it to the neighbors while I went home to change my clothes because I got wet from the rain. I suddenly felt cold after cooking, so I had some time to rest before having our dinner.
Our kids loved this food too. This is one of their favorites. Jehoia keeps on telling me that she likes it so much, and I feel so glad every time my daughter is happy. Another simple birthday celebration, but what makes it memorable is the people gathered around. The most important present is our presence. We must give value to family members because they are the only people we depend on in difficult times.

Oh, I thought you never experience cooking using firewood. 😅 Thanks for the pizza slice. 🫶
Wahaha of course I did. We do this in the province too especially for occasions. But that was when I was still in elem days. I think using firewood in our place is less opted as electric and gas are more efficient. 😁
You surely missed the smokey taste. 😅
