Hello everyone! It is my first time to post in here and also, I am a newbie here that keep on exploring and discovering new things to have learnings and information to know. I hope that my journey here becomes beautiful and especially lots of opportunity to come.
Are you familiar with the word "Gabi"? Here in Philippines, especially in province gabi is a tagalog term and in bisaya we called it "Dansalan"
Gabi is the plant bearing the scientific name Colocasia esculenta. It is more known in English as taro.Gabi roots are used in recipes for sinigang, particularly sinigang na baboy (pork). For now, I just wanna share with you our own recipe for Dansalan(Gabi) cake.
Ingredients:
Gabi (small/medium)
3-4cups Sugar(brown/white)
Food coloring (liquid/powder)
½ or 1cup coconut milk
Procedure:
- Peel the gabi. Prepare the grater. Wash all the peeled gabi root crops then start grating it.
- Once you were done grating all the gabi root crops. Prepare a bowl then mix the grated gabi, sugar, coconut milk and put the food coloring as what you desire.
- After mixing all the ingredients, set aside. Prepare a steamer and a leaf of banana.
- Put the banana leaf on the steamer just like putting a parchment paper while baking a cake.
- Set aside.Prepare the boiler or pots.
- Puts the mixture on the steamer with banana leaf as if it is a parchment paper.
- Cook it to 20-30 minutes. Then serve hot.
Tips:
Coconut milk adds sweetness to the mixture and made it fluffy.
Food coloring adds beauty and attraction to the product.
This kind and type of cake is an affordable one. No worries for ingredients because you can only get gabi on the farm or backyard if you have.
And this is the finish and cook product of Dansalan(Gabi) Cake.
I only get a piece of sliced cake. You may also add and put margarine on the top of the Dansalan(Gabi) cake as toppings and to add flavor on it. It is a delicious and yummy cake even if it is a native. You can cook a cake without using an oven only a steamer.
Closing Thought
We made this cake because my niece celebrates her four years and 3months birthday today. She was craving this type of cake. In a simple way we made my niece happy and satisfied.
