Will you eat a “white rose”?

Hi guys, hope you are doing well.
Today I will invite you to a restaurant in Hoi An for dinner. We will try a popular dish here, which is called “the white rose” (in Vietnamese: bánh bao).

You can order the banh vac and “white rose” banh bao mix platter or just one of them, depending on what you prefer. There are three sizes: Large, Medium and Small, that would be easier for you to choose, so whether you go alone, with friends or big family, you can try it all.

We ordered a small plate of only “white rose” banh bao, a big plate of both banh vac and banh bao, fried wonton and juices.

Now you might know why it has the name “white rose”, yes, the restaurant tries to make it look like a rose. I can understand if there is anyone who says that, no, it is not even close. But hey my friend, take it easy, excitement and curiosity do make the food more appealing, don’t they?
The outside of “white rose” is made from rice flour, which wraps around the ground pork meat mixed with shrimp paste, seasoning then steamed until cooked perfectly. It is topped with fried red onions, which is super crunchy, a boost for the flavour. This dish is served with sweet fish sauce and fresh chillies (so tasty that I had a sip of it).

Banh vac has different fillings: bean sprouts, black fungus and a little minced pork have been stir fried then stuffed and shaped, like a tiny pillow for me. I personally do not like this as much as the “white rose” banh bao because it is kinda bigger which can make me feel full quickly.

Fried wonton has a crunchy crust, topped with a mix of onion, pineapple, tomato, green bean and shrimp. The sweet and sour sauce increases the taste of this dish. We finished this meal with satisfaction and a full-filled stomach.

A few pictures of the restaurant to provide you an overlook for the atmosphere and decoration. There were not many customers at the time me and my local friend arrived in the evening. She told me that this place is quite famous and you can hardly find a table during the peak time before the pandemic.

Please forgive me for not taking a picture of the menu and receipt. My friend paid for it and we both forgot the exact amount. But it should be about 300.000 VND (~ $14)
