Urban Rooftop Garden | Make the City a better place.

in Natural Medicine4 years ago

Increasing green space in cities is not easy. We covered every inch with highrises, skyscrapers, and concrete structures. There's no breathing space for us nor for any other animals, birds, or insects. While in this chaos rooftop garden can be a solution.

In Bangladesh, people are becoming more invested in this day by day. One major reason is there are many initiatives and organizations that are helping with the setup process of rooftop gardening. So the cost became low than before.

And the second reason is, I guess, people are becoming concerned about the environment. Another big reason is this pandemic. Urban rooftops became the best place to hang out and have a good time, so they are adding some plants around to improve their lifestyle.

I read in a recent article that 30% of the rooftop of Dhaka (capital of Bangladesh) is now initiating rooftop gardening.

This is such good news. It can reduce urban heat, air pollution, provide organic and fresh food, home for birds and insects, and more.

This is the view from my rooftop. One side is covered with some green but another side is still empty.

The apartment I'm currently living in doesn't have any garden on the rooftop. That's very unfortunate. I have my balcony garden. But it would be great if there would be some plant on the roof too. It would not be possible for me to take care of the rooftop plants without anyone's help. It actually depends on the landlord's decision. So I'm not currently thinking about this.

But the nearest building got a well-organized garden on its roof. The homeowner got a good collection of different fruits, herbs, and vegetables.

Take a look!

They did a great job, no?

I'm new in this apartment. But I have a plan to pot some plants on the roof in the future. Nowadays it doesn't cost much and the draining system is also not very complicated.

I do have vegetables, flowers, and herbs on my balcony. But there are no fruit trees, the roof can be a good option because of the huge space.

Let's hope for the best.

Hope your rooftop garden does well, looking forward to updates!

Sure. I'm hopeful. :)
Thanks :) :)

Hello. What a fantastic idea and good for the environment to have a rooftop garden. You don't have to worry about watering your garden very much in the rainy season.

This project makes sense.

It is costly to set the garden and include draining system. But once it's done, it can serve us with many things.
Thanks.

Hi @rem-steem , great post.
What is this plant/fruit? Is it Mango?

That would be amazing to have that growing here, but alas, without a greenhouse, any plant like that would not survive our winters.

Yes, they are mangoes.
Here in Bangladesh the weather is very friendly for the whole year for agriculture and homesteading.
Thanks.

We get some good stuff too, but not tropical fruit as a rule, our winters kill off any chance of fruit developing unless you have a green house or something.
Thanks for answering @rem-steem

We all have something good.

Rooftop Garden is really a great thing, it's like the use of roof space wisely and eats organic things.
My father really loves to do that he was busy on his holidays.

That's great. My mom also have a huge garden on her roof.
Thanks

wow, that's is really a great thing.

Not bad for an urban area with limited cultivatable lands. Massive and very beneficial improvisation.

I hope people will more actively doing this.
Thanks.

That is a productive use of what would be otherwise be abandoned space. Rooftop gardens will become increasingly common in the future, especially in crowded cities with little access to traditional gardening spaces.
