Hello my dear friends, how are you? I hope you are happy on a beautiful day like today. Today is March 21st. One year ago, on March 20, 2020, with the Corona epidemic, many areas in our country were locked up. At the same time we had a busy life and had to stay at home. Having spent most of the day at work, having to stay home most of the time made life feel boring in a way.
With the onset of the quarantine period, many busy people returned to their homes and engaged in a variety of activities. My parents had reserved our small garden for intercropping even before the quarantine period began. Small pots and polythene bags were used for planting the seeds. I have included more details on this in some of the previous content.
This morning I had enough time to take a walk in our small garden. So I took some photos to show you about the current state of our intercropping. Although the growth of intercrop plants has been somewhat limited due to the recent dry weather conditions, it has been observed that the growth of vigorous plants is gradually increased by the occurrence of light rains.
My parents are always trying to grow, medicinal value, nutritious by corps and vegetables. According to traditional Sinhala medicine, if we are keen to grow a sufficient number of plants in our backyard, there is a possibility. These native plants, which have medicinal value as shrubs, grow very quickly. All it takes is a little effort on our part.
It is not necessary to describe one by one the photographs included in this content, as you have already been provided with more information about intercropping. As the corona epidemic spreads, so has the value of turmeric. At present a kilo of turmeric powder is sold for more than a thousand rupees in Sri Lankan currency. That is why many people are more interested in turmeric cultivation in their home gardens.
Of course a person has the ability to do anything if they are interested. Many people are discouraged even before they start doing something. Only a very small group will continue their journey until their work is successful. People react differently to cultivation. The spread of weeds and the destruction of insects have left some people lagging behind to stop growing their crops along the way.
Instead of using chemical fertilizers, we can grow any plant using compost. But through the use of compost manure the plants grow in sequence. Although the use of chemical fertilizers accelerates plant growth, there is a lack of nutrients that we get. They contain many toxins that are harmful to the body. Therefore, the use of compost manure with limited growth is more important.
Many people today complain that they do not have enough space to cultivate. But in my opinion, if even our garden, which has a very small space, has the ability to grow plants of different values, why are there no facilities for such people to grow? Nowadays many people who have little space have many opportunities to grow more valuable plants. No need to bother finding them. They are closest to you. A polythene cover, even a small container, will suffice.
Nowadays, many women try to grow only beautiful flowers in their garden. Seeing these flowers grow gives us great comfort. But only that energy of the mind is left to us. If we can plant more useful vegetables and dangerous fruit seeds or plants with those flowers, we can get more benefits in the future. In particular, we will continue to have access to fresh and nutritious food, which will also reduce our unnecessary expenses.
Despite the small space in our backyard, you can see from the photos included in this content how our parents tried to make good use of it. In this small space they have prepared the environment as well as the fertilizer needed to grow small plants of medicinal value as well as vegetables and fruits very well.
Due to the high demand for ginger in our vegetable market today, they are sold at a higher price. But if we want, we can grow them in the backyard, eliminating unnecessary costs. By planting a small ginger tuber we have the opportunity to grow a large number of large shrubs.
From the photos included in this content you can guess how much our residents eat vegetarian food. How much better is the harvest grown in the garden than the poisonous vegetables and fruits obtained from the market? I will end my content by giving you a decision on that. Thank you all for reaching out to the content. Have a wonderful week.
