Many travelers have been reunited with loved ones during the past few weeks following severe Covid19 lockdowns in countries all over the world.
I am soooo happy to report that our son is finally back home after a month long wait for a repatriation flight back to African soil from Russia; miracles do happen indeed as it looked like he and around 90 other South Africans would have had to wait till early July for a flight back home but our SA Embassy really came to the party and arranged this flight that nearly got hijacked but I told that story last week!
He did a short stint in a very nice quarantine hotel and after being tested could fly back home to self-quarantine here at home in separate quarters.
Our Lily's Cottage is open again and we have some good bookings for early July from regular business guests, so we should recover our losses soon as we are small; I cannot begin to imagine how difficult it's going to be for large concerns with big overheads!
We have to abide by a strict Covid19 Safety Pledge, but that's no problem as our units are well apart from each other so it is easy to practice safe distancing.
A quick update on Recycling Left-over Vegetable off-cuts with some pics of some of the little shoots showing their heads; obviously some have been in the ground a little longer than others, but I will soon have spring onions, leeks and carrot tops to add to my cooking. Sweet Basil and Mint shoots that's been standing in water is rooting nicely and will be planted out soon! The Rosemary seems to be a tad stubborn to root, but I will be patient;
All good things come to those who wait, not so!
Our son's homecoming also meant a ton of washing as everything had to be sanitized...just in case some of those pesky viruses decided to jump onto his apparel and travel across to Africa;)
The quickest breakfast I could think of this Monday morning was one of my favourites - Banana & Peanut Butter on Homemade Artisan Bread Toast.
HEALTH BENEFITS OF PEANUT BUTTER & BANANAS
This sandwich keeps me going for quite some time, and I believe it's as both Peanut Butter and Bananas are loaded with nutrients.
Peanut Butter
Peanut butter has Potassium, Protein, monounsaturated Fat, Fibre, Magnesium, Vitamin E as well as Antioxidants.
Some amazing health benefits are:
- Aids in weight loss
- Improves blood circulation
- Excellent for heart health
- Great option for diabetics
- Reduces risk of breast cancer

Bananas
We live in a subtropical climate with many Banana farms on the lower south coast so no wonder our provincial rugby team used to be called The Banana Boys, but their name was changed a couple of years ago to The Sharks; sounds much more menacing not so:)
Banana plantations on the lower South Coast of Kwazulu Natal
Bananas are rich in carbohydrates, fibre, vitamins B6, and minerals like potassium and manganese and has the following benefits:
- Provides instant energy
- Fights muscle cramps
- Maintains good blood pressure
- It is a great antacid as it coats the lining of the stomach and suppresses acid secretion
- Helps you recover faster after diarrhea
- It is a natural probiotic

Happy to hear your son made it home safely. Once a mother always a mother! We always worry about our children until we know they are safe and sound. Getting things open must be quite a relief. Things here are still uncertain. we estimate that about 64% of the population has been infected. There are no formal numbers and no reporting so we take as many precautions as we can when going out for supplies
Take care of yourself Ceci!So nice hearing from you @cecicastor; you're right, my mother still worries about me and I'm an old lady already! Things are slowly opening up but we still have to be careful as we apparently have not reached our peak yet, but the economy has been badly damaged with many hungry people out there!
How absolutely lovely to have your son home!!! 😍 Where are you in South Africa? I have a very dear friend living in Cape Town who has income and is comfortably off - she is passionate about supporting small biz post covid. I'll be chatting with her later this week and it would be nice to give her the website details or whatever. Her name is Sally Golding.
We are over the moon, and so is he! He enjoyed the whole experience but it was time to come home! Just those bite marks are still not gone so he got antibiotics from our doctor, he never told me just how bad they got...and there's way more than just 6!
Your friend sounds like such a kind lady, her name sounds familiar. Awe that's so sweet of you @artemislives but I'm sure there's other businesses that need help more than us! We live in Durban, around 1000km from Cape Town.
This wants me to grab a piece of bread and peanut butter NOW! 😋😋😋
Happy that you are finally united with your son. It's okay to have loads of laundry, as long as he is safe and in your arms again! 😍 And Lily's Cottage is back to business. Many good things come to those who wait! ❤
Keep safe @lizelle.
Yes I really did not mind all that laundry; funny how things seem to fall into place at the same time; let's just hope that this horrid virus doesn't cause much more havoc as the economic outlook really is not good for this old world!
BUT I'm super thankful for many things tonight! Thank you for your nice comments.
Oh yes! Hopefully this virus would be finally over soon. So many people are suffering because of this--financially, emotionally, and may even be all aspects of life. 😢
But yes, we have to develop an appreciative attitude despite our situation and be thankful of the little things. We can be a happier person! 😍
Have a great day @lizelle. 😊

I love any bread; especially if it's freshly baked.
I think I'm addicted to the smell more than the bread itself.
With our loved ones, we tend to cook and eat more too.
Glad to know that your son is finally home.
Nothing like that smell of freshly baked bread not so! Thank you for the nice message @ireenchew, we're very happy that he's home safe and sound:)
I'm thrilled to hear your son is back and your business is in operation again! The world seems to be, slowly, getting back to normal. Although it feels like one step forward, two steps back sometimes.
I have something similar to that banaNut sandwich for breakfast some days only I swap the peanut butter for raw almond butter. It's delicious and keeps me full until lunchtime, even if I take a bike ride.
Enjoy your week, my friend!
I love Macadamia Nut butter, absolutely yum but not readily available at local stores. Anything nutty certainly keeps one feeling satisfied for much longer!
You're so right, with this Covid thing it can be one step forward and suddenly two steps back! We just have to keep our immunity strong, enjoy the sunny weather over there while it's still nice and hot; it's the best form of Vitamin C. We're very fortunate that it's sunny all year round, Durban winters are the best, unless there's snow on the Drakensberg!
Take good care of yourself Eric.
That was truly intense Lizelle, but now you can finally breed again. And your garden is doing great too. Oh and I am drooling over that banana one the peanut butter toast! YUM!🍌💚🍌
LOL, I don't think I'll breed again Lena:):) But I'm definitely breathing easier now;)
Thank you for the encouragement always and take care of yourself over there!

Congratulations on the return of your son! You must feel a deep sense of peace regarding this.
I think you are an absolute master at baking. You inspire me. I think a good old peanut butter and banana on your beautiful bread would be like heaven.
I hope the best for your business. May all the cards fall in your favor and get you well back on your feet.
new normal!
Take good care of yourself my friend. You are too kind @carolynstahl, thank you so very much! I really hope you can also get back to living a normal life again over there; world economies are not good at all but I do believe there will be new opportunites for those who can adapt to the

Wow my favourite peanut butter added banana which I always taking in morning. Good job!
Thank you @cherryng, it's really a nice combo!
Banana on a fresh bread roll is popular in my home, have never tried it with peanut butter.
Peanut butter and syrup on fresh bread another sandwich for lunch always enjoyed on the run.
So glad your son is safely home under Mothers TLC again no matter how big/old they are 😂
SO true Joan, we'll worry about our children till we close our eyes one day;)
I often prefer having a Banana Dog instead of a Hot Dog; it goes so well with peanut butter! Thank you for your lovely and thoughtful comments, really appreciate seeing you here!
So glad for the safe return of your son AND the return of your little business. That is good news indeed. Oh boy am I a fan of a simple banana and peanut butter sandwich! I will do that on occasion for my own breakfast, with a little sprinkle of cinnamon on top. Can't beat that kind of comfort food!
I must try the cinnamon on top, that would round it off perfectly! Thanks for the lovely message Katie:)
Was this not Elvis Presley's favourite?
Almost an Elvis but the Bacon and jam is missing, can you just imagine all of that;) Hope you're keeping well @anneke!
O my goodness - I can do the bacon and banana but do not know about the jam- Yes one day at a time. You guys staying safe?
That Elvis sandwich is just not for me, but I agree about the Bacon & Banana;)Yes we are thanks @anneke!
