Iron for our health: Why and how to source?

in Natural Medicine5 years ago

Nowadays, everyone, whether children or older, likes to eat things of their taste. While eating, no one thinks about how this food will affect his/her health or whether we will get nutritious diet or no.

If we have balance of vitamins, minerals, protein, hemoglobin in our body, then we can remain healthy and refresh. Iron is very important in keeping the body healthy.

Why iron is important

Hemoglobin cannot be formed without iron. Hemoglobin is an iron-rich protein. Hemoglobin gives red color to the blood. This red blood particle is the main component of blood. Which produces more oxygen in the body and also increases the ability to breathe. Iron works by transporting essential oxygen from lungs to other parts of the body.

Both the deficiency and excess iron can prove to be a harmful body. Due to iron deficiency there is a risk of fatal disease like anemia and iron deficiency is seen more in women than men.

Diseases due to high iron content

Excess of iron is likely to cause hemochromatic disease. If the amount of iron increases, the chances of getting many more diseases also increase. For example, diabetes, cancer, liver problem, heart attack, arthritis, impotence, worsening of digestion, etc. are at risk of many serious diseases.

Diseases due to Iron deficiency

There is a risk of anemia due to iron deficiency. It is more in women because they are unable to take care of their own food and due to menstruation, they get blood loss. Due to this, there is a risk of respiratory disease, difficulty in maintaining body temperature, heart disease.

There are many symptoms of this - such as early fatigue, pale yellow skin, head aches and cycles, weak immune system, dark circles under the eyes, more pain during periods, more hair loss.

Whole green vegetable for Lack of iron

Green vegetables contain high amounts of hemoglobin enhancer. For example, spinach is rich in elements like calcium, sodium, chlorine, phosphorus, mineral salts and protein. Drink plenty of tomatoes, mustard, fenugreek, coriander, mint, Bathua, cabbage, beans, cucumber.

Beet roots

Iron derived from beet root produces hemoglobin in the blood and is also effective for the activation of red blood cells. Apart from beetroot, beetroot leaves also contain a significant amount of iron. You can bring sugar in your diet daily as a juice, soup or salad.

Dry fruits

To increase hemoglobin, eat dates, almonds and raisins. They contain sufficient amount of iron. Eating dates with milk daily has many benefits to the body. Eating dates makes the body rich in iron.

Jaggery

Jaggery is very helpful in removing iron deficiency. It is a natural mineral. It is full of vitamins. Jaggery is also suitable for stomach.

We girls need IRON a lot - and it's also critical for just about every kind of healing, since the blood is the carrier of goodies and the taker out f the trash. LOL. I drink moringa tea every day and we add moringa powder (home made & organic) to lour smoothies every day to keep our iron levels optimal.

Hello @lawns, this is @notconvinced on behalf of Natural Medicine.

You sure did pack a lot of information into a few words. Very efficient.😀

Iron is so important, especially for women. A majority of women I know are anemic and need to eat more of the foods you highlight here.

Low iron is a big risk for a lot of people (including myself!) Thanks to a blood test a few months back, I found out my levels were way lower than I would've thought. Started doubling my supplement level, and also found out an interesting piece of info: taking iron on an empty stomach is when it's most easily absorbed by the body. Nowadays, instead of taking mine in the morning, I take it a few hours after dinner before bed. Testing levels in two weeks to see if my plan has worked at all lol. Great post!

Awesome list of iron rich foods! I would certainly add spirulina, the number one source of iron (as well as complete proteins, calcium, vitamins A and B), is vegan, and which you can easily grow in your home.
