RE: Flowers and Broccoli and Bugs Oh My!

There are always setbacks in gardening. Always. One of the very first things I do for any important garden is put in the fencing. Sturdy fencing that will last years. I work too hard to share, I'm afraid. And because I raise for a year's worth of food, I can't be losing it.

The one area I've not yet had success is with the brasiscas. Tiger moth and white cabbage butterflies are my nemesis. There's something not quite right for brassicas in my soil, so the plants aren't healthy. This year the plants were stressed because I was so late getting them in the ground. All the brassicas are under attack.

Next year.....

Thank you for this encouraging comment. It really helped when you said one of the first things you do is put in sturdy fencing. Even though mine wasn’t sturdy I should have left it and just kept picking it up until we were able to get a better one. I know now what I need to do.

Oh wow. Insects are eating our cabbage so much that it can’t even grow back decent enough. They’re eating it as soon as the leaves grow in.

Yes next next year ~
