Covid is bad for humans... and Mother Nature?

Greetings Hivers. As you may know I live in Phuket, Thailand which has been destroyed by the Covid situation. By destroyed, I mean financially. Practically all of the tourist industry is dead and everything that feeds from it as well. Being aware that many humans are in difficult times, how is Mother Nature getting on with the situation?

The bright side of Covid?

If there is any bright side to this current world economic situation resulting from Covid it seems to be the wonderful effect on Mother Nature. At least in Thailand, especially in the south which is full of beautiful islands and beaches which in normal times are often times jammed full of sunburned tourists. The photo above shows a whale shark off the shore of Pattaya which normally is a very busy tourist destination full of speed boats zooming around to various islands and on diving/snorkeling trips. These days there are no tourists and no speed boats about besides those with Thai tourists and with the lockdowns coming and going even those are limited.

Nature returns

Animals are returning to places they haven't been seen at for decades, The fisherman above has never seen a whale shark in his 10 years on the sea there. For more info whale shark story. There are many stories like this in the news these days. More locally sea turtles laid eggs on Kata Beach in Phuket. Normally this beach is one of the most popular in Phuket. With the lack of tourists turtles have returned to lay eggs. The local authorities protected the eggs and it became a real interest to locals especially when the eggs hatched. Instagram was full of egg hatching videos. For more info on the turtles.

How to find a balance?

Let's hope that in the future we humans can find a balance with nature and we don't need pandemics for nature to begin thriving again. I'm sure that all of us in this community love nature and enjoy being in the beauty. But how can we love nature without destroying it? Feel free to give your comments below. Thanks for reading and as always...

It is important to clarify a few facts. The covid even favored the domestic animal, which now has more attention from its human friend, thus saving lives. In my country the sea is abundant with fish and since then it has grown a lot of different spices. What a beautiful whale shark, I have never seen one. Thank you for this post.

A word of advice, never ask for upvote on your posts.

Thanks for your input!

It must be taken into account that it has its pros and cons, since many animals are also affected by the virus, but of course many have also retaken the spaces that humans had taken from them, good post! regards

Hey thanks for the comment and the reblog! Well appreciated. Yes many animals are affected negatively as well and things are not always clear what the case is. For instance, many of the elephant camps here have closed and the mahouts have to take the elephants back to their home which normally is in Surin which is quite far. They don't have the money to feed or transport the elephants apparently. So the elephants don't have to suffer from tourists on their backs but may have to suffer a long journey and limited food.

This is an amazing post my friend! And well, you're right, it has affected many animals, and the amazing thing is that the animals it has affected are those that are involved with humans, such as the case you just mentioned.

Reminds me of an older news story where the canals in Venice weren't being constantly churned up due to a loss in tourism. The waters turned clear again, although I don't know if that is still the case.
