Always, under the watchful eye of that metaphorical sleeping dragon, whose thorny back is formed by the abrupt mountains of that imposing Guadarrama’s Mountain Range that delimits the natural border between Segovia and Madrid, the traveler can find a great cultural diversity, which makes his trip a splendid foray into those dark puddles, which, still, make up some episodes of what we call History.
Beaten by the wind on each and every one of its sides, the old town of Sotosalbos or White Groves, if we stick to the etymology of its name, offers the visitor not only the gratifying vision of an intrepid rural architecture capable of defying time, but also, one of the most relevant temples of Romanesque architecture in Segovia, which, in addition, has come down almost intact to our days: that of Saint Michael.
In this town and next to its imposing church, the gossip of the neighbours tells that the eminent medieval figure of the famous Archpriest of Hita was irremediably seduced by the splendid beauty of a shepherdess, a circumstance that he himself recorded in his important literary contribution, one of the many that sweeten the history of our country.
