Possibly, he would have received all the criticisms there were and would be from that meticulous Gustavo Adolfo Bécquer, who, as if he were the reincarnation of that other poet, more or less contemporary, also involved in artistic gossip, Charles Baudelaire, felt as much animosity towards the churrigueresque or excessively ornate style, characteristic of the Baroque, as that other one, also, that led him to speak of the Templars in derogatory terms, calling them monks with spurs.

Without necessarily being an admirer of the Baroque style, whose altarpieces, moreover, often hide, unfortunately and in many cases, the surprising plastic expressions of previous styles, such as Romanesque or Gothic, which illustrated, with apparent innocence, the majority of the apses of some churches, which, at the time, were considered the architectural and artistic style of Christianity, par excellence, I recognize, in this spectacular wonder of the 17th century, carried out by the then substitute architect of the cathedral, Narciso Tomé and baptized with the curious name of the Transparent, a peculiar work, worthy of admiration, above all, for its detailed beauty and perfection.

In fact, it is, however, one of the countless heritage treasures that make the Primate Cathedral of Toledo, considered one of the richest cathedrals in Spain and where the contemplation of so much beauty, treasured through the centuries, exerts, especially on the most emotionally sensitive spirits, that artistic overload, an experience that, based on that experienced by a well-known writer in the cathedral of Florence, has come to be called by psychologists as the Stendhal syndrome.

Posiblemente, hubiera recibido todas las críticas habías y por haber, de aquel meticuloso Gustavo Adolfo Bécquer, que, cual si fuera la reencarnación de aquel otro poeta, más o menos contemporáneo, metido también a cotilla artística, Charles Baudelaire, sentía tanta animadversión por el estilo churrigueresco o excesivamente recargado, característico del Barroco, como aquella otra, también, que le llevaba a hablar de los templarios en términos despectivos, calificándolos de monjes con espuelas.

Sin ser, necesariamente, un admirador del estilo Barroco, cuyos retablos, además, suelen ocultar, lamentablemente y en muchos casos, las sorprendentes expresiones plásticas de estilos anteriores, como el Románico o el Gótico, que ilustraron, con aparente inocencia la mayoría de los ábsides de unas iglesias, que, en su momento, fueron consideradas como el estilo arquitectónico y artístico de la Cristiandad, por antonomasia, reconozco, en esta espectacular maravilla del siglo XVII, realizada por el entonces arquitecto suplente de la catedral, Narciso Tomé y bautizado con el curioso nombre de el Transparente, una obra peculiar, digna de admiración, sobre todo, por su detallada belleza y perfección.

De hecho, se trata, no obstante, de uno más de los innumerables tesoros patrimoniales que hacen que la Catedral Primada de Toledo, esté considerada como una de las catedrales más ricas de España y donde la contemplación de tanta belleza, atesorada a través de los siglos, ejerce, sobre todo en los espíritus más sensibles a las emociones, esa sobrecarga artística, experiencia, que, basada en aquella otra experimentada por un conocido escritor en la catedral de Florencia, ha llegado a ser denominada por los psicólogos como el síndrome de Sthendal.
