Today, paraphrasing Machado when he spoke of Soria and the old Duero river, I have once again walked along the banks of the Manzanares and although I have not seen those languid poplars that have always served as matchmakers for loves -especially for those born to vera of the summer solstice, on the magical night of San Juan- love, excuse the redundancy, has been present in my walk.

The bark of the poplars of Machado, has been transformed, for a moment, into iron ore meat and in the railings of the old bridge, a bridge over a river, the Manzanares, which begins to staunch the grime that gave it such a bad reputation, I have seen dates that are days and initials that are names of lovers.

And in the depths of my heart, emotions, perhaps those of my grandfather, I have sensed again, in those tightly closed padlocks, in those gestures of spontaneous poetry, the presence of a magical sentimental Ouroboros, where everything turns on itself and yesterday's loves are the continuity of today's loves.

Hoy, parafraseando a Machado cuando hablaba de Soria y del viejo río Duero, he vuelto a pasear por la ribera del Manzanares y aunque no he visto esos lánguidos álamos que siempre han servido de celestinas para los amores -sobre todo, para aquellos nacidos a la vera del solsticio de verano, en la mágica noche de San Juan- el amor, valga la redundancia, ha estado presente en mi paseo.

La corteza de los álamos de Machado, se ha transformado, por un momento, en carne de mineral de hierro y en las barandas del viejo puente, puente sobre un río, el Manzanares, que comienza a restañarse la mugre que tanta mala fama le dio, he vuelto a ver fechas que son días e iniciales que son nombres de enamorados.

Y en el fondo del corazón, emociones, quizás de abuelo, he vuelto a presentir, en esos candados cerrados a cal y canto, en esos gestos de espontánea poesía, la presencia de un mágico Ouroboros sentimental, donde todo gira sobre sí mismo y los amores de ayer son la continuidad de los amores de hoy.
