[ENG-SPN] Pilgrimage routes / Caminos de peregrinación

The pilgrimage routes that converge on the wonderful cathedral of Compostela, which still remembers the work of magnificent craftsmen, such as Master Mateo or Master Esteban, are similar to two well-known rivers of Galicia, which, joining in the so-called Ribera Sacra, one provides the water and the other the fame: the Sil and the Miño.

Although the most famous and popular of the pilgrimage routes continues to be the so-called French Way, which leaves the Pyrenees behind through the Ibañeta and Roncesvalles passes, the truth is that, in Spain, there have always been multiple pilgrimage routes that extended from east to west and from north to south.

One of them, precisely, passed through Uceda, a town in Guadalajara, near Madrid, where pilgrims found relief in this ruined 12th-century Romanesque church, dedicated to the figure of the Virgin of La Varga and attributed to the Knights Templar, which currently houses the town cemetery.

I like the very nice pictures

Must be a very old cathedral but it's clear it was once a magnificent structure now made old by time. I wonder why it's not renovated for tourist purposes. Thanks for sharing.

Yes, it is a shame that many architectural gems like this one have not been restored in time and have been left to rot miserably. There were even some, of their kind and time, that were dismantled stone by stone and sent to the United States, to the personal parks of the great magnates. In short, when people disregard their heritage and deny their past, they lose the best of their own essence.
