Until relatively modern times, the municipal ordinances strictly prohibited that the roofs of the buildings, at least in the big capitals, exceed the height of the towers of the churches, a detail for which, in cities like Madrid, we can still see picturesque timeless scenes, where beautiful domes, especially in the particularly abundant Baroque style, rise like metaphorical guardian beacons above its roofs and rooftops.

Sooner or later they will be completely dwarfed by the modern buildings. It's a terrible truth in developing cities.
