I have to admit to have been somewhat surprised and overwhelmed by the response to the Stock Images community. What I envisioned as a casual meeting place for image creators and those requiring stock images has become so much bigger than I expected and the support for it has been amazing. I've had several people approach me and say how much they appreciate what we're doing here and even a generous donation of Hive from @keuudeip just last week. After some deliberation I've decided to power it up for the community as a whole.
This community has a bit of a different dynamic to the ones I'm used to, where members come together on a shared interest, so I've been a bit unsure how to move forward in the best way for the community. With the help of @crosheille, I feel I've found a kind of rhythm with the posts coming in from image creators each day and being able to curate and reward them with the help of @OCD and @curangel. However, there is another side to this equation, that being the Hivers who might use the images and this is what I want to start moving forward with next.
They are just as valuable to this community and we want to encourage and be able to show appreciation for them too (after all, with no-one using the images, the creators sharing them end up being somewhat redundant). We plan to do this in two ways. Firstly we want to support and reward those who are already using Hiver images and crediting them. We will do this by leaving a tip on their post and leaving a comment letting them know what the tip is for. In the future, hopefully our vote will increase enough to be able to support them from a curation perspective as well.
We also want to alert people who are using stock images to this community, particularly if they are using similar images to ones we currently have indexed. We will do this by leaving a comment on their post, asking them if they've heard about the community yet and guiding them to the index and introduction/about posts.
Naturally, we also want to build the Hive Power of the account, so that it can start to give better reward with its vote. Currently @crosheille and myself, @minismallholding, are using our own votes and even then we wouldn't have gotten very far if we hadn't had the big curators’ support.
If you want to help in any way, we'd love to have more pairs of eyes out there. Let us know if you find Hivers who are using Hive Stock Images or who are using the type of stock images you know we have here. If you use a stock image from another Hiver, tag your post using #stockshares so we get an alert, or use it in a comment if you come across someone who is using one.
Do you want to start contributing to the Hive Stock Index? Please first read About Stock Images and Important Information.
Are you looking for specific stock images to use? Please view the Stock Images Main index where you can search by genre. This will be updated periodically as more images are added.
Many thanks to @lifeskills-tv for the image and adding the banner. Also thanks to @sitaru for the Hive bee image we use and @thepeakstudio for the divider. They will all be beneficiaries of this post.
First of all, congratulations again for this initiative :)
I fully support you and hopefully I will come up with more ways to do so
I just had this crazy thought, how about inviting people to ask for stock images?
Imagine that I wish to write an article about .. a specific insect, or about a specific subject. Wouldn't it be great if I could come with a post and ask for some hive stock images to use?
:)
Not a crazy thought at all. I've been trying to get people to make suggestions for the sorts of images they want, but not had much feedback. Perhaps as we start to get more eyes on the community posts we'll get more feedback. The ones I have had feedback on tend to be things like emotions, which require model releases for photography. Which reminds me, I wanted to look at seeing if the at community would consider drawings, cartoons etc for this area.
I hadn't thought about doing it as people making posts specifically to ask, before. It will be good to see how it goes and see what sort of response you get. Grateful for all ideas and experimenting to see what works.
👍 I totally support this, and very much support the tip initiatives to develop this community so that it can going forward. I think, from now on, I can support too by giving a tip to every Hiver who uses my photo and mentioning me so I know.
Appreciating both the feedback and support from you.
Great idea! Hope this takes off and I'll try my best to remember to use it(Memory like a goldfish)
Well at least it's not a memory like a sieve... like mine...😁
Sounds like a wonderful initiative. Thank you so much for doing this! I will go to the post with details about how it works.
I hope we will see you around. 😊
I don't have much Hive power because I'm still a newbie. But I like this idea very much. I already contributed some pictures and more to come. I plan to add a few each week in totally different topics. This way you can give the Hivers a bigger choice.
Thank you for all the effort and let's get this thing booming!
Maybe you can add a request section or something similar? I have no clue what kind of pictures people need.
Looking forward to forward more from you. All contribution is valuable.
Hi, I love this community and I contributed with horror collage and dividers.
My question?
If they use my dividers and have tagged me, should I put the names here?
I love the horror, suspense, and fantasy genre, I plan to make more collages for the community, because when I write horror stories it's hard to get the image I need. I spend hours searching through free image banks.
My other question?
Can I collect images of terror or suspense and make a post to make it easier to search?
Thank you, Eve, we love your contributions too.
We'd love it if you let us know who has been using your contributions and tagging you. Although I wonder if it would be better left as a comment on the post actually using it and tagging us. That way we can go straight there. Unless they use your lovely dividers in every post, of course. Then a name would be fine.
I'm not sure exactly what you mean to do in your second question, but as long as you do your usual thorough crediting, then you need no permission from us. It's only the legal issues we have to try and enforce, otherwise we prefer to be as restriction free as possible.
This is coming along so nicely - the main index is evolving into a seriously funky creature :). I look forward to being able to contribute images again now that I've got my account back - woohoo!
Wow! That was quite a rollercoaster ride. So good you're back.
🤗
