Have you always wanted to ask me something?
Now is your chance, there won't be another!
(ok, ok, there will)
Hit me up in the comment section with a question and I will do my best to answer it. I post a new AMA post every 2 months or so.
Sorry @inertia
Want to do your own AMA?
There is a community for that™
Want to check out my previous AMAs?
What is an AMA?
AMA is a format popular on Reddit where one person offers to answer questions for a limited period of time.
How long will I answer questions?
I will usually answer them pretty quickly, and I should be around for a few hours. I will continue to answer them as they come in.
What type of questions can you ask?
I'm open to pretty much anything but my interest fall in the following categories:
- Hive
- Hive Witness
- Crypto
- Gaming (Video & Board)
- Photography
- Development
- Technology
- Productivity
- Movies & TV
- Comedy
- Memes
- Waiting for CPUs & GPUs to come in stock (still ffs!)
Don't feel limited to the above categories, just things I generally talk about.
So let's get this shit started!
Hello;
My question is what is lined up next for the Stemgeeks platform and its token STEM?
Thank you.

Most likely the Hackathon

Why the new avatar?
Still haven't given in to the scalpers?
I am a huge Dark Souls fan, and was changing things up. Honestly, I mostly wanted a cover image that went well with the avatar and this seemed to work well.
Solaire (my avatar) is a very popular NPC in the game for his jolly attitude and tireless loyalty.
No, and now would be the worst time as it is getting close to plenty of supply. I haven't been trying hard as I don't want to spend all day hitting F5. I'm sure if I traded my time for money, I'd have everything I needed by now. I won't trade my money for time out of principal of not paying sleazy scalpers who screw over the community.

What communities are you now looking into that have potential to follow Leofinance in terms of potential growth?
I think it will be hard to follow Leo, it has a very distinct advantage of being crypto related meaning it is a common niche with everyone on Hive and everything it does is related to it's niche.
Other tribes are a small subsection of a relatively small community.
For example my own tribe STEMGeeks, is focused on Science, Technology, Engineering, Math. A massive niche in the real world but tiny on Hive. Makes it really hard to grow without massively onboarding outside of Hive which is very difficulty, costly, and time consuming.
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
They set the bar high of what can be done indeed.
Some follow up questions if you don't mind:
What do you think about blockchain games present on Hive? do you plan on launching your own game in the future?
I think they keep people entertained and coming back to Hive on a daily basis and that's awesome.
I'm actually working on a few mini games before I potentially start a larger project.

Hello. I would like to hear your opinion on this question: Can we use the 'technology' tag in our leofinance posts which related to the Hive blockchain. I wanted to clarify this point since it is a little bit confusing for me. Thank you in advance 🙂
If it is talking about technology, sure but just mentioning "Hive" no.

What do you think of @lordbutterfly’s marketing proposal?
I think giving thousands of dollars a day to a troll is a bad idea and most marketing companies are scams. Haven't done enough research into the company being used but seeing $4,000/month is being spent on email marketing didn't leave me with a good impression. Doesn't matter much what I think it's approved and we pretty much stuck with it now anyway.
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
Appreciate your honestly.
The fact he openly told me that he would sabotage the proposal regardless of the actual merits of it, simply based on his dislike of me (as you can clearly see here), disqualifies his opinion from any serious discussion, really.
The proposal passed in under 2 days showing what everyone thinks of his remarks.
I on many occasions asked him to set aside his personal antagonism which he refused to do.
What pains him most, I guess, is me consistently proving him wrong.
And this is nonsense.
I will be discussing email marketing today and I will receive their past campaign results to make absolutely sure that channel is worth it to us. Right now I am convinced that the ROI on that channel is significant.
But as I mentioned a few times before, the proposal is open to budget restructuring and dapp owners as well as all witnesses (not Marky) will be invited to join the calls and preparations.
Anyway you slice it, I’m glad something is being done.
What is your opinion on how the coding is going on the blockchain itself?
Do you like what is being done? Are there some things that you feel are missing or being overlooked?

I love @blocktrades and his teams attention to focusing on scaling. I think this is absolutely critical to future growth, the technical demand for running a blockchain like Hive is insane. Our block log file is over 300GB and Hivemind exceeds 1 TB and growing quickly. Prior to Mira (and now the focus on pushing more to Hivemind) we had a 512GB Ram requirement, this is beyond what most servers are capable making it extremely difficult to sustain. This was reduced to 256GB and the focus on Hivemind reduced this further to less than 64 GB. This isn't sexy coding and doesn't provide cool things like SMTs and improved communities but is critical to maintaining Hive over the next few years.
Yes, I'd love it to be faster like everyone else. It's not like we have millions of dollars budget for hiring devs though. I'd love to see native first layer tokens and smart contracts as I think these would open up a lot of opportunities for Hive. It seems like others are coming to this conclusion as well.

Do you ever miss the old Steem days?
Not particularly.

Not sure the best way to phrase this question but ... I respect your desire for anonymity within the crypto space, especially here on Hive. Once we see mass adoption, do you think it is a real risk that people’s Hive net worth is public knowledge that can be used by individuals to target specific people for crime?
I am in the information security industry, so Internet privacy is always a concern of mine, especially since most of the time your data is hacked by third parties and not yourself. Every time I sign up for a site (crypto or otherwise) I use random usernames and passwords and try to minimize the amount of real information I have to provide. One of the main reasons I deleted my Facebook account as they are one of the worst.
As for crimes, that surely is a concern but it is no different than Web 2.0 and using anonymous accounts there as well which is fairly common practice.
When I got here, I knew I would be a target as I was fighting spam and abuse which made me a bigger target than most. I have been threatened and harassed many times. Much of it would make your skin crawl and I would prefer not having these psychos show up on my doorstep causing me to have to defend my house and family.
I am not in anti-abuse anymore but at this point, enough people hate me that I'd prefer to just be a random dude. I started on Steem like everyone else clueless on what it would become and just kept typing random shit until I found a username not taken.

What's your feelings on the many money grabs on hive (and side chains) without any meaningful propose aside from moon?
In general, it depends. Some things are unique and maybe even fun and may be worth playing around. Just yesterday I was checking out the million dollar homepage. A project you would likely call a "money grab" but at the time was completely unique and a big deal. If you are not familiar with it, it was just some dude that sold 1 million pixels on a website for advertising for $1 each. It is stupid af, but was popular and people had fun. It's still around today. Another man's junk is another man's treasure sort of thing.
Now, if you are referring to scams and sleazy stuff, I am 100% against that stuff and will go out of my way to shut that shit down.
Got examples?

I have a few buddies on there, it's funny cuz last week or maybe three now, @rishi556 and a few others in our group were talking about it.
I'm going to go ahead and refrain from naming any names, as I also have my own shitcoin (blokz SELF token) for project support when I get there, but I see so many that are just... Cringe.
I'm really starting to lose faith in the space, and just write the entirety of current blockchains as nothing more than get rich quick schemes.. I come from a very open source and open collaboration for the good of all type background, and what I'm seeing is just, maybe easiest described as exploitation of the well meant intentions of others...
Not to mention the "trust" that's being broken by devs who are stealing funds from projects they were trusted on, or putting exploit oriented code into public open source repos.. I'm rambling,... I don't know, a lot is at stake, both macro and micro...
Some of this is on purpose and some of this is just the road to hell is paved by good intentions.
Many people want to build a project but fail to deliver value, they are not specifically trying to scam people but they over estimate the value of what they are providing. On Hive, most everything boils down to assigning the inflation to someone else as it is very difficult to provide value without costs and most people don't want to pay out of pocket.
I think you can look at a lot of tokens and find this situation on and off Hive.
Crypto is truly the new Wild West, I mean someone is paying over $2M for a digital copy of Jack's first Tweet on Twitter. It doesn't get more ridiculous than that.
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
Very true. Yea, I saw an article on the tweet madness and just shook my head. But I'm also one that's not sold on "image" and other NFTs... Ownership on the internet is a funny thing, since it was meant to be free and open. LoL.
Any identity based coins you follow?
thoughts on AI managed KYC? (No human interaction, just a bot saying someone is who they say they are) had that random idea recently and didn't bother to see if anyone is working in that space. Not that I'm a huge fan of kyc shit, but if we're aiming for mainstream, that needs to be a thing yea?
No
Think it has a lot of work to become mainstream.

I remember how his page became so popular that everyone wanted his pixel 🤣 A genius!
Some people are lucky enough to earn a lot of money with the stupidest things, while there are many people, who are hardworking (not necessarily only on the internet, but in real life as well), and they make only a small amount of money monthly. How do you see this? What are you think about it?

How long have you been running your hive witness node? And is it worth it, would you recommend others to run one?
I joined July 1st, and produced my first block September 5th, 2017.
If you think you can do it effectively, sure. I am heavily biased to technical witnesses as when you boil it down, witnesses are the IT of the blockchain. Witnessing isn't a fund raising effort for a project or person although that's how many see it. A witness acts as security to protect everyone's tokens and help decide the direction the blockchain goes from a technical standpoint.
If you are doing it to raise money, it's not the best opportunity out there.

I thought the same thing about 4 out of 5 people suffering from diarrhea.

2nd question. What do think about posting on steem, only to bring rewards back to Hive?
I don't trust anything on Steem after having $80,000 stolen directly from my wallet. It is run by a gang of criminals.

That is criminal.

Many of us know @ginabot to me it is very useful, but there are more bots of its kind, in fact I read about another one with a woman's name that alerts you of transactions in HE, but I can't find the post where I read it, I want that bot.
My question is, do you know of such bots?

What are your thoughts on Hive and quantum resistance?
Quantum computing is going to be an interesting development but it is a ways off. Hard to say what the real world performance looks like. Still think it will be too long for brute forcing but the security tech may switch to higher levels of encryption.

I just saw an article about the energy problem of BTC the other day, emphasizing how much energy is "wasted" for transactions. It was more mainstream than the past similar pieces that have come out, I forget where but in the Times or a similar place.
What do you think of the energy issue? If it's a problem, what's the solution? Something BTC needs to tackle themselves? Or will a general worldwide movement to more green energy alternatives eventually make this a non-issue?
All your opinion, of course.
What are you going to do with all of your unopened Splinterlands Alpha packs?
Sell them. Eventually. I hope.
I only have one question: Why?
How to get a hive
Most post and comment.

Hivewatchers-helper has no clue about Curie. Others at hivewatchers could easily contact Curie people if they want to. They know who to talk. It’s always easy to point fingers rather than have something of substance to say. If you see any abuse report to Curie on discord with evidence.
I am not part of Hive Watchers, and I have spent the majority of my time on Steem/Hive identifying and stopping abuse but I recently step down to leave it to those who care to do it.
While I agree those who cover up and hide criminals are guilty as well (to some extent), it is up to the community to step in if someone is voting in a way that harms the platform, yet very few do. In terms of curation sniping, there is very little you can do as flagging their votes just flags an innocent third party and the majority of stake holders here are just curation sniping. Many doing it with as little vote as they can to get maximum rewards rather than sincerely supporting people.
To answer your question, there really isn't much that can be done. The majority of stake is not voting based on quality.
The next hard fork will include a mechanism to reduce the effectiveness of curation sniping to some extent™.

Curie is a old and well know account/community. At one point it was more organized and benevolent. From what I have heard (and I haven't done a lot of research myself as I stepped away from abuse fighting for various reasons) it has lost its way.
What "scammer" posts do you refer to? All I saw in the screenshot was complaining about Curie's voting.

yayogerardo was moved to "timeout" channel a few days ago after few warnings to stop engaging in appeals in our name without our permission, and for general trolling and arguing with various hiveians. He is also walden's buddy.
That's something you need to take up with them.
I can't help you with that.
