In this post I share about photos of fishermen setting fishing nets manually or by swimming into the fairly deep sea. I took these photos from a distance using a Canon EOS 700D camera with an additional Tamron lens. Traditional fishermen in several coastal areas of Indonesia still use unique methods in catching fish, one of which is by setting nets in the sea while swimming. This method utilizes the skills and courage of fishermen to go directly into deep waters.

This method is usually done by fishermen who do not yet have modern equipment such as boats or engines. They will swim to a location that is considered to have a lot of fish and then set up a net that has been prepared in advance. The net can be rectangular or a circular net that floats on the surface of the water. This technique requires swimming skills and good knowledge of sea conditions. In addition, fishermen must have courage and resilience because they often have to deal with unpredictable weather and other natural challenges.

Although this method seems traditional, the swimming method to set up nets remains an important part of coastal fishermen's culture. This also shows local wisdom in maintaining the balance between humans and nature, as well as creating an environmentally friendly way to earn a living from the sea.
