If you have ever wondered what life was like for astronauts and flight engineers during the Apollo moon missions, or how fighter jets are made today, then a visit to HAL heritage center and aerospace museum is definitely worth your time. The Heritage Center exhibits some of the most important aircrafts in India’s history including an A-27J Jaguar light combat trainer designed by Rafael Advanced Defense Systems Ltd., which played an instrumental role in Indian Air Force operations during the Kargil War. It also has displays on various space programmes such as Salyut 6 (the first manned Russian space station), Chandrayaan 1 & 2 (India’s maiden lunar exploration missions), ISRO’s Mars Orbiter Mission etc.
The HAL heritage center is truly museum worthy. The layout of the museum is very well thought out. There are various sections which accord with the various periods in which airplanes have been in use. Our tour of the heritage center was very interesting. We not only saw different planes but we also learned a lot about their history. We even got to see prototypes of some of the newer planes.
It looks like you enjoyed your time there. Are you from Bangalore?
