In one of my usual morning walks I found another frog in my garden and I tell you that she was very active and friendly because she was even curious; at a moment when I approached the mobile for a macro shot she made a movement with her head as if she was inspecting what was happening, then I approached her a little more the mobile, she lifted a paw and placed it on the screen and then moved completely to the mobile as you can see in the second picture; this was great because they usually run away from anyone who approaches them but this one very calmly approached me.
It all started when I was watering the plants in the garden; at that moment I could see the little frog that was sleeping but apparently they have a very acute sense regarding water because it had not reached her and the sound of the water activated her; well it must also be that she was very thirsty since it has not rained for some time and the sun gets quite hot during the day so she must be waiting for an opportunity to get some drops and this is the perfect opportunity.
He set out on a reconnaissance tour and when he noticed that there was no water around him, he decided to go out to see where the sound was coming from.
Once she came out of the pot where she was, she tried to place herself in a higher place and stayed quietly as if she was waiting; then I decided to find out if it was a coincidence and placed the bucket with water in a place right behind her, so if she was really looking for the water, she would have to turn around. What do you think friends; indeed when I splashed the water with my hands, the frog quickly turned around looking for the sound of the vital liquid.
After a few minutes without hearing anything he decided to climb higher so he started climbing without jumping; it was quite comical as he looked like a mountain climber climbing a cliff.
On his way to the top of the aloe leaf he encountered a mantis; I immediately thought that the mantis would become his breakfast since amphibians usually eat any insect that fits in their mouths. But if I tell you from my perspective, this is how things happened: The mantis is climbing up when it suddenly realizes it is in front of the frog which leaves it motionless for a few seconds while the frog stares at it. The mantis quickly reacts and says good morning to the frog and asks for permission to pass; but when it is passing by it has to apologize all fearful since it had no other option but to place one of its legs on the frog's head.
Well maybe if we see it from a more realistic point of view what happened was that the mantis moved so slowly that the frog did not realize that it was an insect because thanks to the color of the mantis can be confused with a small branch.
Once the mantis is away, the little frog decides to continue its journey and with a couple of jumps it manages to get out of the center of the aloe plant. At that moment when I am taking the pictures a lady passed by and looked at me; she told us to be careful because it could be a poisonous frog but I am aware that poisonous species have very bright colors and it is unlikely to get them in this area; even so I am always careful to wash my hands well because these amphibians can be a source of salmonella infection.
After a big jump and reaching the wall near where I had already watered the plants, she looked at me in a way that I define as grateful since she looked cheerful and not at all fearful; and in a small oversight she disappeared into the garden. I was very happy to know that she will spend the day resting in a cool and humid place as she likes. La Rana y su Amiga la Mantis.
En uno de mis paseos matutinos habituales encontré otra ranita en mí jardín y les cuento que estuvo muy activa y amigable ya que hasta sintió curiosidad; en un momento que acerque el móvil para una toma en macro ella realizo un movimiento con la cabeza como si estuviese inspeccionando lo que ocurría, entonces le acerque un poco más el móvil, levanto una pata y la coloco en la pantalla para luego pasarse por completo al móvil como pueden ver en la segunda fotografía; esto fue genial ya que ellas comúnmente huyen de quien se les acerca pero esta con mucha tranquilidad se acercó a mí.
Todo comenzó cuando estaba regando las plantas en el jardín; en ese momento pude ver las ranita que estaba durmiendo pero al parecer tienen un sentido muy agudo con respecto al agua porque no había llegado hasta ella y el sonido del agua la activo; bueno también debe ser que estaba muy sedienta ya que tiene algún tiempo sin llover y el sol calienta bastante durante el día así que debe estar a la espera de una oportunidad para conseguir algunas gotas y esta es la oportunidad perfecta.
Se dispuso a dar una vuelta de reconocimiento y al notar que a su alrededor no había agua decidió salir a ver de dónde provenía el sonido.
Una vez salió de la maceta donde se encontraba intento ubicarse en un lugar más alto y se quedaba tranquila como esperando; entonces decidí averiguar si era casualidad y ubique la cubeta con agua en un sitio justo a su espalda por lo que si en realidad estaba buscando el agua tendría que dar la vuelta. Que creen amigos; efectivamente cuando chapaletee con las manos el agua, rápidamente la ranita dio la vuelta buscando el sonido del vital líquido.
Transcurridos unos minutos sin escuchar nada decidió subir más alto así que comenzó a trepar sin dar saltos; era bastante cómico ya que parecía un alpinista subiendo un acantilado.
En su camino a la cima de la hoja de sábila se encontró con una mantis; inmediatamente pensé que la mantis se convertiría en su desayuno ya que los anfibios suelen comer cualquier insecto que quepa en su boca. Pero si se los cuento desde mi perspectiva las cosas sucedieron así: La mantis va subiendo cuando de repente se da cuenta que esta frente a la rana lo cual la deja inmóvil por unos segundos mientras la rana se queda observándola. La mantis rápidamente reacciona le da los buenos días a la ranita y le pide permiso para pasar; pero cuando va pasando tiene que disculparse toda temerosa ya que no le quedó otra opción que colocar una de sus patas en la cabeza de la rana.
Bueno quizás si lo vemos desde un punto de vista más realista lo que paso fue que la mantis se movió tan lentamente que la rana no alcanzo a darse cuenta que era un insecto ya que gracias al color de la mantis puede confundirse con una pequeña rama.
Una vez alejada la mantis la pequeña rana decide continuar con su viaje y con un par de saltos logra salir del centro de la planta de sábila. En ese instante en que estoy tomando las fotos paso una señora y me miro; nos dijo que tuviésemos cuidado porque podía ser una rana venenosa pero yo estoy consciente que las especies venenosas tienen colores muy llamativos además es poco probables conseguirlas en esta zona; aun así siempre tengo cuidado de lavarme bien las manos ya que estos anfibios pueden ser una fuente de infección por salmonella.
Después de un gran salto y llegar hasta la pared cerca de donde ya había regado las plantas me miro de una forma que yo defino como agradecimiento ya que se puede ver alegre y nada temerosa; y en un pequeño descuido desapareció en el jardín. Quede muy contenta al saber que pasara el día descansando en un lugar fresco y húmedo como le gusta. Bueno amigos me despido con mucho cariño deseándoles un feliz día, tarde o noche, según donde se encuentren.
