Hello Hivers, I hope you are very well; today I will share with you how my new pumpkin harvest is going. As I will show you below this harvest has been the most profitable of all, since in the previous ones I got good results in quality and size but this time apparently I will also have quantity and that makes me very happy.
One of the things that makes me laugh about these plants is that I can watch her every day so that she gets tangled up just where I want her to be but she always ends up putting the gourds in places that are very uncomfortable for her; since the weight of the gourd would end up bursting the vine.
Many times I have to accommodate them, relocate them or even place things to support them and not be overcome by the weight; once my parents told me that the plant can support the weight of its own fruit; but we got a surprise with a pumpkin that reached almost ten kilos; it ended up bursting the vine and since that time I prefer to be safe than sorry. Of course moving them is tricky because I have to wait until they have a considerable size, otherwise they will dry out or as some people say; they become overgrown and I end up losing them. Fortunately some of these pumpkins develop in perfect places and I don't have to do anything to help them until the day I harvest them.
The pumpkins that I have shown you are commonly called round or creole pumpkins and some of these are green and white spots like the ones I have in my yard; but I don't have only these round ones I also have an oval one that I don't know for sure where I got these seeds from since the pumpkins are oval and I don't remember having extracted seeds from any pumpkin of this variety.
Next I show you the first one I harvested and it is of the criollo variety. I was watching it for a couple of weeks until I considered it was ready although it seems to me that it lacks a little but it doesn't matter, we can still use it and if it is not completely ready it will serve me as a reference to harvest the others.
Wow it is heavy; it is big and beautiful, I am thinking of leaving the others until they are fully ready to see how much they can grow and if they change color.
When we chopped it, we could see that it was still a little more ripe, but it is still good to eat; it has a light yellow color. We will have to look for a recipe for cakes or sweets for when I harvest the next ones because if I don't miscalculate I will harvest several at the same time. Hola Hivers espero estén muy bien; hoy compartiré con ustedes como va mi nueva cosecha de calabazas. Como les mostrare a continuación esta cosecha ha sido la más provechosa de todas, ya que en las anteriores obtuve buenos resultados en calidad y tamaño pero en esta ocasión al parecer también tendré cantidad y eso me hace muy feliz.
Una de las cosas que me hace gracia de estas plantas es que puedo vigilarla cada día para que se enrede justo por donde yo quiero pero siempre termina echando las calabazas en lugares muy incomodos para ella; ya que el peso de la calabaza terminaría reventando la enredadera.
Muchas veces tengo que acomodarlas, reubicarlas o hasta colocar cosas para que se apoyen y no las venza el peso; en una ocasión me comentaron mis padres que la planta puede soportar el peso de su propio fruto; pero nos llevamos una sorpresa con una calabaza que alcanzo casi los diez kilos; termino reventando la enredadera y desde esa vez prefiero prevenir que lamentar. Por supuesto que moverlas resulta delicado ya que debo esperar a que tengan un tamaño considerable ya que de lo contrario se secara o como dicen algunas personas; se pasman y termino perdiéndola. Afortunadamente algunas de estas calabazas se desarrollan en lugares perfectos y no tengo que hacer nada para ayudarlas hasta el día de cosecharlas.
Las calabazas que les he mostrado comúnmente les llaman calabazas redondas o criollas y algunas de estas son de color verde y manchas blancas como las que tengo en mi patio; pero no tengo solo estas redondas también tengo una ovalada que no sé a ciencia cierta de donde saque estas semillas ya que las calabazas son ovaladas y no recuerdo haber extraído semillas de ninguna calabaza de esta variedad.
A continuación les muestro la primera que coseche y es de la variedad criolla. La estuve vigilando por un par de semanas hasta que considere que estaba lista aunque me parece que le falta un poco pero no importa igual la podemos usar y si no está totalmente lista me servirá como referencia para cosechar las otras.
Wow sí que pesa; esta grande y hermosa, estoy pensando dejar las otras hasta que estén totalmente listas para ver que tanto pueden llegar a crecer y sí cambian de color.
Al momento de picarla pudimos apreciar que efectivamente si le faltaba un poco más por madurar pero aun así esta buena para comer; tiene un color amarillo claro. Tendremos que buscar alguna receta de tortas o de dulces para cuando coseche las que vienen ya que si no calculo mal recogeré varias al mismo tiempo. Bueno amigos ha sido un gusto compartir esta experiencia de mi nueva cosecha de calabazas con ustedes les deseo que tengan una linda mañana, tarde o noche según sea su ubicación.
