I've totally forgot about this part, and it's so true. In some ways self-doubt makes us feel ashamed of feeling that way, which can make us have even more doubts and sink deeper into those feelings.

Exactly, that's why I said it's the enemy within. It's aim is to make one loose their self esteem, self worth and capabilities. When this happens, the person will no longer have confidence to aim higher or move out of their comfort zone.
