Hi everyone,
More people have indicated interest in the next Magic Monk Arcades Hive event happening on 8th of October, at 8pm UTC. One of our future participants, @omarcitorojas, mentioned that there was no phone game at this event. In order to maximise the number of participants, I am adding a phone game to our tournament. @omarcitorojas has even kindly helped me out in making a video so anyone here with a phone knows how we plan to run this event.
The game we want to play is Brawl Stars. You can easily get it from Google Play using this link (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.supercell.brawlstars&hl=en_AU&gl=US). It is a very simple arcade game where you control a player on the screen with a weapon and the objective is simply to take out the other players. It has a fun character design and some good mechanics that allows for exciting game play.
We will play 3 games at this tournament. Brawl Stars, followed by Multiversus, followed by land-io, in that order. After some experience running the last tournament combined with some experience with participating in real life tournaments, here are some updated rules:
Brawl Stars rules
- For Brawl Stars, it has a free-for-all mode, as seen in the video. This is the mode we will play in, where 10 people can go into the same game, and there is only 1 winner from each game.
- If there are 10 people or less, we will play this game 3 times, and each person can play in every single game. The first place winner from each game will get a prize. If it is their first time winning on this day, they will get 10 Hive, otherwise they will they will be awarded 5 Hive for winning.
- If there are more than 10 people, we will divide the number of people up equally into X groups (where X is the minimum number of groups possible where each group has less than 10 people), and each group can only play once. This is unlikely at the moment due to past experience, but we will develop rules around this more later if it becomes more likely that it will happen.
Multiversus rules
- Multiversus also has a free-for-all mode. This is the mode we will play in, where 4 players go in the same game, and there is only 1 winner from each game.
- If there are 4 people or less, we will play this game 3 times, and each person can play in every single game. The first place winner from each game will get a prize. If it is their first time winning on this day (inclusive of Brawl Stars), they will get 10 Hive, otherwise they will they will be awarded 5 Hive for winning.
- If there are more than 4 people, we will divide the number of people up equally into X groups (where X is the minimum number of groups possible where each group has 4 people or less), and each group can only play once. This is unlikely at the moment due to past experience, but we will develop rules around this more later if it becomes more likely that it will happen.
Land-io rules
- By default land-io is a free-for-all game with up to 16 participants. This is the mode we will play in, where all players go in the same game, and there is only 1 winner from each game.
- If there are 16 people or less, we will play this game 3 times, and each person can play in every single game. The first place winner from each game will get a prize. If it is their first time winning on this day (inclusive of Brawl Stars and Multiversus), they will get 10 Hive, otherwise they will they will be awarded 5 Hive for winning.
- If there are more than 16 people, we will divide the number of people up equally into X groups (where X is the minimum number of groups possible where each group has 16 people or less), and each group can only play once. This is extremely unlikely at the moment due to past experience, but we will develop rules around this more later if it becomes more likely that it will happen.
Hopefully these rules will make it easier for multiple people to get Hive.
One of our participants gave this feedback following the conclusion of our last event, in case you're thinking about whether it's worth joining:
I thought this is a beautiful comment that is worth sharing. It shows how participants feel at the conclusion of my event and I am really happy to be able to bring a bit of joy and excitement to @shortshots's day. Also, since he has played 2 out of the 3 games before, I think he will have a good chance at winning something again at the next event.
Look forward to October 8th! Again, please join my Discord server https://discord.gg/ZXXNj7J9QY and run some practice games with me just so you know how to join on the day! Remember to watch the gameplay videos for each of the games if you have no experience with them in the past:
