Mahathir Mohamad, the previous chief who controlled Malaysia's recuperation from the 1997 Asian money related emergency, expects the current coronavirus pandemic to hit the worldwide economy considerably harder.

"This is more terrible than the money related emergency," he said in a Bloomberg Television meet with Haslinda Amin. "This is actually an awful hit to the economies of the entire world."

Mahathir joins other world pioneers in notice that the infection effect might be more terrible than past times of change. European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde this month cautioned the monetary aftermath could be like the 2008 worldwide budgetary emergency, while Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said it may be more awful.
