A few months to election free dialysis was announced for cancer patients in my country. With this piece of information I believe you should be able to see where things are with healthcare in my country. Why did I start with this example? Because that’s how things are in my country. We play politics with everything and believe you me we all knew this couldn’t be sustained in the long run.
When it was announced we all praised the government for championing such an important initiative but then non party foot soldiers knew that it was all a campaign strategy to garner votes cause we were almost in the election months. Coincidentally this was implemented in the month of the election and it went on well until a few days ago when we heard reports of a cancer patient who was asked to pay for dialysis at a hospital she went to even though she’s a National health insurance card holder.
In my country, being a national health insurance card holder gives you certain privileges when it comes to certain illnesses. There are times where you don’t even pay a dime after receiving treatment. But looking the the cost of dialysis we all knew a couple the like this isn’t ready to take up the cost of dialysis for cancer patients.
The medical system in Ghana seems to be breaking down day by day as things seem to be taking the wrong turn everyday. Is this how we want things to be? No. But we can’t do anything if those who are supposed to take care of it will rather make policies that’ll benefit them instead of benefiting the country as a whole.
A few years ago we had Mps bake a national E-levy cake because they successfully passed a law which burdened Ghanaians with more taxes. They didn’t seem to care how it impacted Ghanaians, all they cared about is that they get to make more money from the tax payers.
The healthcare system can be saved in this country if we stop playing politics around it. There’s no where in the world that health care is not expensive but we know it’s an essential part of human life. Without these structures in place we will not be taken proper care of when we fall sick.
For me, the only way things can world in a country like this is if we take it and stop playing politics with it.

It's really something sad we have to witness these things happen, it's not just in your country but mine too
Every politician suddenly gets to see the need to be concerned about the health of her citizens towards elections and loses every bit of that zeal immediately elections are over... It's really something bad for real
That’s really sad. When we see power we tend to forget the people and only remember them when we need power again. Hmm
