Inspiration had been elusi
ve for a long time, and the weariness and exhaustion of the boys, who at times had been inspired and energetic, were becoming increasingly evident. Philipe, at every rehearsal, would sit and stare into space, hoping to find that spark of what had kept him immersed in music for hours. He watched his bandmate Campbell, seemingly on autopilot with each key, as if his mind were following a pre-established pattern of linear notes. Rudi, for his part, resembled a puppet, coaxing chords from his guitar while longing for those moments when, without thinking, he would make so many movements on stage that many said he was dancing, and his visual spectacle was utterly vibrant.

They had been like this for several years, stuck on the same melodies from that notebook they shared, a notebook that held their entire story, from how they met to their deepest thoughts. Each entry was like a treasure, expressing what bound them together. Even so, as their rhythm slowed, they had avoided touching the notebook at all costs, so it remained discreetly stored away on a shelf. They felt that if they reviewed or read it in this state, they might alter its meaning, since it was all that remained of the emotion they had once felt.

Outside the world of music, their lives were no different. Rudy had a monotonous job that made him feel like everything around him was a loop, which sometimes caused him to lose focus and get lost in thought; he even often forgot to maintain his guitar and always remembered to do it at the last minute, and then in a rush, so when he played he felt completely dissatisfied, and this gnawed at him so much that it affected his mood, turning him from a cheerful and energetic boy into a quiet and grumpy one.

Philippe, for his part, was the one who was least able to get on board; He would spend hours searching for and working on audio mixes and tracks for the band, but at the end of the day he would feel that his work was worthless and would end up deleting all of it. This frustrated him, as he felt he was losing his touch in what he loved most and couldn't seem to put anything together, even though he knew the tastes and styles they had always played together.

For his part, Campbell's distraction wasn't so much because he'd lost his way musically, but because his new life as a first-time father was consuming him, leaving him little time for the boys and the band. He was still aware of his surroundings and what was happening, but at times he felt powerless. Each of the boys was experiencing a shared fear: that one day music might simply no longer be for them and they'd have to give it up. This thought consumed and terrified them, as Rudy felt that his passion was gone; Philipe was experiencing a growing insecurity; and Campbell felt that his family and responsibilities would force him to abandon music.

However, one day, while looking after his son, he took the opportunity to clean his keyboard. He thought that perhaps he could clear his mind and possibly find the solution to everything. However, what he didn't expect was that, while checking the sound, he would begin to hear little giggles and applause coming from his son; the boy was looking at him with genuine joy as he listened to the musical notes. Campbell couldn't resist the boy's excited expression and played a little melody for him, the one he used to practice with in his early days and that he also shared with his friends as the first melodies from his notebook.

It was a soft melody, but one that conveyed a lot of emotion, and for the boy, it was something that made him laugh, clap, and move around as if watching his father play was simply the best thing ever. On a whim, he took out his phone and recorded the little boy happily playing the melody and sent it to his friends, who, upon seeing it, looked on in amazement. For Rudy, who was having a difficult day, it was something that simply brought a smile to his face and made him sit and watch how happy the little boy was with the melody that had started his entire musical life. Meanwhile, Philipe couldn't stop laughing, feeling an emotion that inspired him to use that short video to create his own version of the melody.

That day, the little boy hadn't just been happy watching his father play the keyboard; in his own way, he had managed to make those three friends feel something they had been searching for: excitement and joy. Above all, that little smile had erased the fear they felt so deeply. As the days passed, during subsequent rehearsals, Campbell brought the little boy along so he could enjoy the music. He would run and play with everyone joyfully, filling the studio with a contagious enthusiasm that simply made everyone energetic and happy. And little by little, they became that band again, shining with such fervor, and once again they began writing in that notebook. All of this was thanks to the smile of that little boy, who now also left his name and the story of how he had brought joy back to the band.
