It is past midday already and we are almost done with today work. We have decided to stay here and work for a little longer before we find our way home. With each passing day we come closer and closer to the end of our rice harvest for this year, although there is yet more little work to be done.

Today's work has beena lot more tasking than the ones we have been doing all this while.

Take a look at how the grasses has overshadowed the rice we have planted. Regardless of all the measures we took to keep the rice farm clean, some glasses later came up, growing at the same length with the rice plants and even to the extent of overshadowing it.

Because of these grasses the rice plants in this particular part of the farm didn't do well but since there are still some grains in this thick mixture of bush we have to work and sort out our grains.

Cutting the rice plants with sickle is very difficult at this time, being already choked by the weeds, you have to sort out one from the other before you can pick the grain carrying plants. This is is the work before us today

This is how the rice plants looks like after sorting and cutting them out from the bush. This is too much for us to abandon in the bush, we would have left these as the work is seriously demanding. Regardless of quantity and the type of herbicides we have used in these fields grasses still came up to affect the crops
Many factors would have led to this occurrence, one of which is that the quality of herbicides they sell here are now very poor. Having watch how rice is grown in China and other parts of the world I have no doubt that they are experiencing these difficult challenges with weed control.

This is not our first time of growing rice and before now the herbicides had often did a better job than what we are experiencing this year, even though we have followed the instructions for applying herbicides to the letter, a different new specie of grasses contrary to what we were used to is what has evolved go overwhelm the farm.

Herbicides have been helpful with wedding and control of grasses in our farming endeavors but we have learnt that these chemicals must be used under specific guide and control to avoid toxicity and chemical poisoning of our lands and water. If these will continually be useful in agriculture they are to manufacturer rightly and applied in the right way too. This will ease our stress and labour in farming especially when we have larger commercial farms to work with bigger than what we currently have.
