Electricity-free well-water extraction

in Homesteadinglast year

Hi guys, I was gonna do this with a little direct-solar dc well pump, but I saw some videos on youtube where you are able to suck water out of the ground without any electricity at all.

Have you ever tried this? Were you successful?

Close the bottom valve, open the top valve and pre-fill the barrel until it can't accept any more. Close the top valve now and only open the bottom valve when you want the system to pull water out of the ground and flow to where you need it.

I guess I need a much bigger barrel if I want the ability to pull more water out of the ground faster. Not sure yet..

What is the formula for input and output pipe sizes?

I live at sea level and the water table is only about 4 feet down. I want max psi/flow at the half-inch spigot.

Also, those 55 gallon drums are pretty ugly. Is there any other container that you can think of that would look nice and stand the test of time in my salty air here?

Thank you for reading and commenting, etc.
I've got the permaculture bug now 😊

A 1000 litre IBC would be good. i bought 4/used ones for about 150 euro's each for rainwater collection.
